Vanderbilt leads 8-5. Still 1 out. Harley hasn't retired a batter yet.
Now he does: Harley strikes out the final 2 batters of the inning. So between two Gamecock pitchers, Vanderbilt had a six-batter run of 3 singles, a HBP, a double, and a homerun. Let's see if our batters still have some fight in them....
Eyster is HBP, and this is scary. Not for Eyster, but the ball grazed off of him, and hits the home plate umpire somewhere in the face, and he drops to the ground. Looks like the ball might have hit him in the neck/shoulder area, under his facemask. Game is stopped while he is being checked out. Looks like he will continue in the game...
Vandy goes to the bullpen. 2 outs and Eyster on 1B. The Vanderbilt pitcher threw 97 pitches in 3.2 innings....
Callil strikes out to end the inning. Still all tied, heading to the 5th.....
Looks like the home plate Ump is still dealing with that injury from the deflected pitch, and is being taken out of the game. I guess we'll go with 3 umpires the rest of the way.....
Top 7th, Vanderbilt leads 18-8, with 1 out and bases loaded. Parker Coyne - who has struggled perhaps more than any other Gamecock pitcher this season not dealing with an injury - takes the mound......
Gamecocks lose the opening game of the series with Vanderbilt, 22-11. Gamecock hitters struck out 16 times, Gamecocks pitchers have walked 11 Vanderbilt batters. Pretty much tells the story tonight......
