The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet in week 5 college football action from Williams-Brice Stadium on Thursday night under the lights. at 7 pm

south-carolina-state-vs-south-carolina2.pngThe South Carolina State Bulldogs will be looking to rebound after a 41-27 loss to North Carolina A&T last time. Corey Fields threw for 316 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on 26 of 49 passing while Jacory Benson led the Bulldogs on the ground with 21 rushing yards. Shequan Davis led the Bulldogs with 6 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown while Benson, Rakim White, and Richard Bailey all had touchdown receptions in the loss.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will be looking to build on their 56-20 romp over Charlotte last time out to improve to 2-2 on the year. Spencer Rattler has thrown for 909 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions on 62.1% passing while MarShawn Lloyd’s rushed for a team-high 244 yards and 5 touchdowns. Antwane Wells Jr. and Jalen Brooks each have 200+ receiving yards for the Gamecocks as well this season. On defense, Nick Emmanwori has a team-high 31 total tackles including 26 solo tackles while South Carolina’s defensive unit has combined for 3 sacks and 4 interceptions this season.

Last meeting: While the Gamecocks generally try to pick up a smaller in-state opponent each year, the Bulldogs have been on quite a hiatus from South Carolina’s schedule: The teams last met in 2009, with USC coming away with a 38-14 victory.

S.C. State players to watch out for is Sophomore quarterback Corey Fields Jr. paces the Bulldogs’ offense, coming off a season in which he threw for 2,097 yards and 17 touchdowns (albeit against 11 interceptions). S.C. State’s defense is led by defensive end Jeblonski Green, who amassed 38 tackles (19.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks, and an interception last season on his way to being named a Senior Bowl HBCU Prospect to Watch.

The South Carolina running game will establish itself early in the conditions. The bad weather won’t hit quite yet – the game was moved from Saturday to Thursday. However, it’s going to be really, really windy. MarShawn Lloyd will keep the production going after a big day against the 49ers, Spencer Rattler won’t have to take too many chances with the passing attack, and the defense will take care of the rest

Final Prediction here There’s little reason to suspect that S.C. State won’t roll through the MEAC again on its way to another FCS playoff appearance, and the Bulldogs’ result against South Carolina isn’t terribly relevant to their season goals.

Pick here: Gamecocks 55 Bulldogs 7

South Carolina looks to be a big favorite against South Carolina State. As of this writing, the Gamecocks are a 37.5-point favorite against the Bulldogs, according to WynnBet Sportsbook.

Rattler lights it up tomorrow night. Finally shows off why last year he was the preseason Heisman choice. Cocks 63 Bulldogs 17 tune it up Cocks getting ready for next week in Lexington!

He's made some bad decisions, but he's not the one calling the plays, either.

You could tell he wasn't really happy with the decision to focus on the run game in his PG presser after the Charlotte game. He was PC about it, but you could tell he wasn't happy.
