The South Carolina Gamecocks (5-3, 2-3 SEC) are back on the road this week as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for an SEC Eastern Division battle with the Vanderbilt Commodores (3-5, 0-4 SEC). Game time from Vanderbilt Stadium (40,375) is set for 7:30 pm ET (6:30 pm local).

South Carolina Gamecocks vs Vanderbilt Commodores Preview and Analysis

South Carolina is entering this game with a 5-3 record overall to start their college football season and they will be playing their 3rd road game of the season here as they are 1-1 in their road games this year. This will also be their 6th conference game of the college football season this year as they are 2-3. They lost against the Missouri Tigers in their last game at home 23-10. Spencer Rattler started that game at QB and he completed 20/30 passes for 171 yards and 1 interception. MarShawn Lloyd led the team in rushing with 30 yards on 7 rushing attempts. Austin Stogner led the team in receiving with 63 yards on 4 receptions. Nick Emmanwori led the defense in that game with 7 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackle. Vanderbilt is entering this game with a 3-5 record overall to start their college football season and they will be playing their 4th home game of the season as they are 1-2 in their home games this year. This will also be the 5th conference matchup on their conference schedule this season as they are 0-4. They lost against the Missouri Tigers in their last game on the road 17-14. South Carolina vs Vanderbilt Prediction

The current betting odds have South Carolina listed as a 6.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Both of these teams are coming off losses to Missouri in their last game but Vanderbilt has had some extra time on their bye week to prepare for this game. The loss is still much fresher in the minds of South Carolina though and that loss ruined a streak of really good play they were on. They had pulled off 2 big upsets over Texas A&M and Kentucky before losing that game but they are still the better team here and will be looking to bounce back from that loss. South Carolina only has 4 games left in the season but with 2 of those games coming against ranked opponents in Tennessee and Clemson and the other being a road game against the Gators, this is their best chance to win another game before the season ends as they only need 1 win to become bowl eligible. This is their best shot to win another game and they are going to take it since Vandy is only 3-5 this season and have been one of the worst teams in the SEC all year. The best way to place a bet here is on South Carolina to cover the spread in this game.

After a too-easy drive down the field for a touchdown by Vanderbilt, USC responds with another score of their own, courtesy of a 52-yd rushing TD gallop from Christian Beal-Smith. Gamecocks lead 24-14 with 9:13 to play in the 1st half.....

After a 19-yd touchdown pass to Josh Vann, the Gamecocks head into halftime leading Vanderbilt 31-14. Emotions are getting high between the two teams, and its getting chippy. South Carolina will have the ball to start the 2nd half......

Gamecocks score again with a 17-yd pass TD from Rattler to Juice Wells, to go back up 3 scores, 38-21 with seconds left in the 3rd Qtr. Rattler has now 3 pass TDs from just 154 yds passing. He's 14-20, so very efficient tonight......

Gamecocks put together a nice drive and look to settle for a FG but fake it and DL Hemingway catches a difficult pass and gets the 1st down, CLUTCH CATCH and run!

Gamecocks bounce back from their Missouri game loss, and earn bowl eligibility for the season, with their 38-27 win over Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks improve to 6-3, and 3-3 in conference play.....
