Georgia commitment Devonte Wyatt enjoys return to South Carolina

Jan. 15, 2017

It doesn’t matter what side of the ball they play on. South Carolina coach Will Muschamp knows there’s one way to get the attention of any lineman.

Food.

It worked for 3-star defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, one of the official visitors on campus visiting the Gamecocks this weekend.

“Coach Muschamp, he was saying he needs me and stuff, but coach Muschamp fixed me a plate of food on Saturday,” Wyatt said. “He was like, ‘Name one head coach that’s fixed you a plate of food.’”

Wyatt, a former South Carolina commitment, had plenty of other good things to say about his return to Columbia.

“It was fun,” Wyatt said. “I had fun up there. It really still feels like home, when I came back.”

The Georgia commitment was joined by his parents.

“Both of my parents had fun,” he said. “They like it. I like it.”

Wyatt, who’s from Towers High School in Decatur, Ga., is the No. 29-ranked defensive tackle in the class of 2017.

“They were talking to me like I’ve got a good chance of starting (at South Carolina) and be the main player in their defense,” he said.

South Carolina’s players did their part, including wide receiver Randrecous Davis, a one-time Georgia commitment and Wyatt’s player-host for the weekend.

“It was like they need me. They need talent, like I’ve got. And I’m real cool, I’m like a brother to them,” Wyatt said. “It’s time to start winning. They’re trying to win a championship next year. … To do that, they need key players like me.”

Georgia will host him for an official visit next weekend. Florida is up for the final weekend of the month.
