Get to know 4-star South Carolina QB Dakereon Joyner

Four-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner committed to South Carolina last Father’s Day, to honor his late father, Damond Alton Joyner.
Joyner (6-1, 208) made the announcement before a gathering of family, friends, teammates and coaches at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, S.C., Which was also attended by freshman wide receiver OrTre Smith, another Charleston area native.
During his impressive career at Fort Dorchester, which included a state championship when he was a sophomore in 2015, Joyner passed for over 9,000 yards and rushed for more than 3,400 yards.

Earlier this month, Joyner was named Mr. Football for the state of South Carolina. He took home the Gatorade Player of the Year award as a junior.
Joyner played in the Shrine Bowl on Saturday and is committed to participate in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in New Orleans.
Between his junior and senior seasons, he competed in the Elite 11.
According to the 247Sports composite, Joyner is ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2018. Overall, he’s No. 200.
Profiling at South Carolina
Joyner enters a quarterback room at South Carolina that includes three other scholarship players: Jake Bentley, Michael Scarnecchia and Jay Urich.
Bentley, a two-year starter, will be a junior in 2018. It would be Scarnecchia’s final year of eligibility. Urich, a former 3-star recruit from Wren High School, was redshirted in 2017.
Though Joyner is intent on playing quarterback, he’s capable of playing other positions. From this perspective, running back could be a fit.
But make no mistake, Joyner has plenty of tools to excel at his current position. He’ll compete for the No. 2 quarterback job when he enrolls in January.

- Sophomore (2015): 3,202 yards passing, 33 touchdowns; 1,058 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns
- Freshman (2014): 532 yards passing; 231 yards rushing
