Hampton moving around fine after basketball injury
07/13/13

COLUMBIA, SC — Victor Hampton's week ended better than it started.

South Carolina's starting cornerback and punt returner could hardly walk Monday after injuring his left knee playing basketball. By Friday, Hampton was moving around fine and taking part in the annual Pigskin Poets reading event at Richland County Public Library.

"I feel way better right now," he said.

An MRI this week showed everything as normal, said Hampton, a redshirt junior.

Hampton was finishing an alley-oop dunk, he said, and came down wrong on his leg. (He made the shot.)

"It felt weird," he said. "I knew there was something wrong because I couldn't jump anymore after that. I had to stop playing. I was nervous because it's so close to the season."

Hampton will continue to receive treatment on the knee and expects to be ready for preseason practice, which begins at the start of August.

Hampton had 34 tackles and one interception in 2012.
