... the rumors are true and Satterfield is indeed heading back to the NFL, who are your top realistic choices to replace him?

More like when then IF. NO Pro style to begin with. Really no names on radar to speak of. I image Beamer has who he wants on his mind.

I said with a feel for the game.
The irony of most of us wishing we could have still had Bobo for most of the Incredibly frustrating first 2/3 of the season… and then Bobo gifting us with that bonehead call last weekend was just too sublime.

I like Erik Kimrey as a coach and as a gamecock legend but if he is selected to succeed Satterfield, that would be a very bad choice. Losing Satterfield would create an opportunity to get an OC that has job experience and unimpeachable credentials. The Gamecocks has tried to go the budget/friend route with their previous offensive coordinators (Satterfield, Bobo, McClendon, and Roper).

I would probably give G.A. Mangus a call before my last call to Kimrey if I am being completely candid.

Mangus would be a good choice.

Nobody on the current offensive staff should be allowed to be the OC if Satterfield leaves. That would be beyond ridiculous and Tanner should be fired if he allows that to happen.

Realistically get to come here? It would probably have to be someone very much off the radar.   A proven P5 coordinator isn’t coming to SC with the talent gap so wide.   There’s always an over inflated idea that we can just go hire coaches and all it takes is more $ spent.   They have to want to be here and few do.

Schemes and plays don't matter when you don't have the men on the chessboard.  Any OC will have to be a super recruiter as well

Mangus was OK but the fact that he really hasn’t been working on the big stage at all is worrying.

I don’t know if I agree with not being able to get a big name. What has to be appealing about this job is the ability to make it your own, build it up, rather than being handed a good situation and riding the wave for two years before finding another home.

Agreed. You just have to catch the right person at the right time. You either need to give the next wunderkind an opportunity or find the right guy in between jobs or ready for SEC ball.

How bad do you want to win... ART BRILES.

Plus anybody can be hired if you are willing to meet their price. So don't tell me we cannot hire a proven offensive mind.

The sentiment that coaches wouldn’t want to be here is a false narrative, as most coaches will work for someone they believe in.  I think the bigger question is does CSB want someone that will most likely make this a 2-3 year stop or does he want someone he can have here for 5-6 years.  Personally I think I’m this would be subject to how he feels about the players that will be here for next year and the recruiting class.  If he feels this is a 6 win team we should take the guy that we can build with over the next few years, if he feels like the right play caller could turn in 8-9 wins and make the job more attractive in 2-3 years then we should go that way.  I personally feel that the Satterfield hire was a shot at building over a 5-6 year period, unfortunately the hire seems to have been a flop.  That being said I want to see someone with real play calling experience, I don’t care if it’s power five or not.  We need someone that understands matchups and how to exploit them if you have less talent in place. Spurrier was great at that and that’s what we need again.
