I was around GAMECOCK athletes as a kid and some other pretty good college and some small college athletes that were paid, no doubt they had parents, uncles, handlers(AAU Coaches) paid as well... I went to a small college for a year and got paid cash to practice with a high school and attend 2 camps. Here is the sad thing,
NIL is the result of a Supreme Court decision. In July 2021, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the NCAA could not prohibit student athletes from profiting off education-related payments.
But this is not going to stop there. Some young kid is going to get their parents involved and fight for NIL money in high schools. And high schools really cannot afford it without getting the counties to raise taxes.
My Daughter left school 18 years ago but I still pay taxes for schools. Maybe I could sue them for making me pay for schools my family no longer uses. I could fight it to the Supreme Court and blame them for letting this happen.
Seriously, I do not mind having to pay to help schools keep going. I just hate all the .01 cent option taxes. In Aiken they have different ones making our taxes be 8 or 9%; I don't even remember. I guess I should look at the receipt.
I just think NIL was wrong.
People talk about how the Bowls don't mean much anymore. Well, there is no such thing as amateur sports in college anymore. If a college pays enough, they will get a team talented enough to get in the CFP.
This all came about from a Supreme Court Decision brought by the athletes that watched other athletes get paid but not caught because some could and some couldn't...
If the NCAA started sniffing around the Longhorns all of a sudden SMU or Tech or TCU was in some trouble, or if the NCAA started sniffing around unc, a player from the Gamecocks is all of a sudden breaking the rules using his father's credit card at the Whitney or if they started sniffing around bama football people in Kentucky started getting uneasy or Kentucky basketball people in auburn and tenn started getting uneasy, or if they started sniffing around Ohio or Michigan the entire Big 10 freaked out....
This case is from the Ed O'Bannon antitrust case in California and spurns from Olympian Jeremy Bloom. Bloom was the first to sue the NCAA over NIL and lost, he was denied the right to play for Colorado after 1 year, his story makes the line not black and white for me because I think Harbor should be able to win the 200m, get endorsements and still be eligibleif Corey Jenkins can get paid to play minor league baseball and retain eligibility. Or any college genius on scholarship that hustles millions, Facebook, ChatGPT, Snapchat, Hootie and the Blowfish if they were all on scholarship they should get paid and in today's world of social media the ability to get paid for popularity is much easier.
I think High School Athletes have been getting paid since the start of Football and Basketball Academy's, hence LeBron James driving a Hummer around as a Sr... but he was on SI, ESPN and filling arenas! That's better than letting the drug dealers and gangsters have them like they did back in day... THE GOAT Manigault and Sleepy Danials come to mind
