In-state DT Kelijiha Brown enjoys consecutive weekends at USCOct. 14, 2016
Saluda (S.C.) High School defensive tackle Kelijiha Brown visited South Carolina for the Texas A&M and Georgia games.
The 3-star prospect, the No. 37-ranked defensive tackle in the class of 2018, spoke highly of his two trips to Williams-Brice Stadium.
“My last trip to South Carolina, it was good. There was a lot of love, ya know? It was a great experience,” he said.
Before the Texas A&M game, Brown spoke 1-on-1 with Muschamp and defensive tackles coach Lance Thompson.
“We went into the room last weekend and they were just telling me that all of the defensive linemen would be gone the year that I came, because most of them are juniors now,” Brown said. “They’ll be gone, so there’s a chance for me to get in the rotation.
“It’s like, if I want to play, I know where to come.”
Lance Thompson continues to push for 3-star defensive tackle Kelijiha Brown. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound junior said he likes the direction Muschamp is steering the program.
“I think it’s good. The team may not look good for them right now, but it’s nothing for them to hang their head about, because he’s a first-year coach,” Brown said. “You’re not expecting him to be great as a first-year coach, because he hasn’t even gotten all of his recruits in yet. I think, in the next few years, they’re going to be the team to beat in the SEC.”
Growing up, Brown was a Clemson fan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the Tigers are in the driver’s seat. It certainly helps that South Carolina has offered. ECU and Wake Forest have, too.
Brown said he hopes to see Florida and Clemson before the end of the season. In the meantime, he’s trying to make sure that Saluda continues the strong start to 2016.
“I’m not a big stat guy,” he said. “Of course, I’ve got a lot of them, but I don’t keep up with my stats. I keep up with the wins and losses, so if we win, that’s one of my stats. Right now, I have 5 stats, because we’re 5-1 … that’s the only thing I keep up with, wins and losses.”
The Tennessee shuffleAnother layer was added to the potential offensive line shuffle between South Carolina and Tennessee on Thursday when 3-star Jordan Tucker de-committed from the Vols.
Tucker, who’s from Roswell (Ga.) High School, picked up an offer from South Carolina earlier this year. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not the Gamecocks will toss their name back into the ring, but it’s a situation that is worth monitoring.
The de-commitment also means that Tennessee’s 2017 offensive line haul is down to one. Apparently, Butch Jones is eyeing a four-man group, and former South Carolina pledge T.J. Moore is ripe for the picking.
According to SEC Country reporter Jesse Simonton, Moore and 3-star target Jerry Drake Jr. will both be on campus at Tennessee this weekend. Moore, a 4-star from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C., will be on an unofficial visit. Drake’s visit will be official.

Three-star outside linebacker/defensive end target Brad Johnson was planning to visit South Carolina for the Georgia game. According to Phil Kornblut, who spoke with Johnson’s coach from Pendleton (S.C.) High School, Hurricane Matthew changed those plans.
“He really wanted to go to USC because he had never been to a night game there,” coach Paul Sutherland said. “He definitely wants to go to a USC game.”
Sutherland said Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Texas A&M are the other schools Johnson is looking to visit officially.
