Jamyst Williams

Jamyst Williams entering Transfer Portal. He will sit out rest of season.

I don’t think this is a big loss. He has struggled since he has been here. He always seemed to be behind, or too small, or whatever.  I have no ill feelings toward him, and wish him well, but so far, he has not been able to measure up.

He has had a tough year. Despite his four-star ranking and amazing offer list, he has looked to me a bit undersized for the SEC. He's too short to challenge tall receivers and bigger guys have been running right over him. He has some quicks however and didn't seem as lost as some of our DB's.  Hope he finds a good fit for his skills and I wish him well. Unfortunately this is not going to help our struggling defensive backfield. Ready for Mukuamu to find his stride.

the staff's logic of moving him to safety made sense on paper that at safety he wouldnt have as much man responsibility so he wouldnt have to worry about being boxed out by bigger receivers, but on the field it just hasnt worked this year.  that and they wanted someone bigger at nickel.  some fans have wanted him to move to offense and i was unaware a high school coach of his said he needed to move to offense this past offseason due to his size.  its unfortunate we didnt get to see him return a pick or a kick to get an idea of his potential with the ball in his hands.

we'll see where he ends up and at what position he lands.

moving forward for us does cook now get some snaps or does the staff decide to move israel and depend on the young guys and turner opposite horn.

Yes undersized and it showed. Not surprised here.

Ouch. Losing a former starter. He really shined early in his career then seemed to fade away

He made a few big plays, but overall not nearly the player we were hoping for.  Not surprised he wants to go somewhere else.  I don't think this is because we suck.  He was upset he lost his starting spot perhaps.

It sucks because we are thin at the position, but really not a big loss.

He played pretty well as a freshman. It seems he hasn't been the same since the injury his sophomore year.

Good point.  If he is no longer on the team, he should no longer receive the benefits that come with playing.

I agree...I feel that once he quits on the team and wants to transfer he should be removed from scholarship.  I know that this sounds harsh but he is taking up a schollie in exchange for acutally playing

Best of luck to Jam wherever he may land

Williams has not posted anything to social media, but did retweet a post saying best of luck to him and “Will miss Jam so much.” He picked USC ahead of Georgia and Oklahoma as part of Carolina’s 2017 signing class.

Williams has only played four games, starting three. That means by leaving now, he can still preserve a redshirt. That would give him two seasons at a lower level school or one at a FBS school after sitting out next season, unless he were to leave as a graduate transfer.

Williams came to Columbia as one of the first big recruits under coach Will Muschamp. He was the No. 76 player in the country in his class and the top rated player in Muschamp’s first full class.

Where he goes

Two seasons at a lower-level school.

Does USC pay

Yes, his Scholarship fund is covered for this year.

Losing a player is never a good thing. Even his HS coach said he was too small to play defense in the SEC.  We probably should have used him on offense and special teams, similar to Ace Sanders for instance.

His HS coach said that?  Wow!  Yes, we should have tried him like an Ace Sanders.
