4 star DL DJ Jones 6'2" 310lbs of East Mississippi JC is back home in Pelzer for a few weeks before heading back to school later this month for the start of summer classes, and he’s taking advantage of his down time to visit some schools of interest. Saturday he was at Tennessee and Monday he and some of his family will be at USC.

Jones has visited USC in the past so he’s familiar with the campus and facilities. He wants to use this visit to have a conversation with the coaches and learn more about their plans for him.

“I’ve learned a pretty good bit about that on the phone with them but it will be good to sit down with them,” Jones said adding there are specific things he does want to learn more about. “Academics, the depth chart, facilities. All that’s important to me.”

One of the Gamecocks’ best recruiters with Jones has been his new teammate Dante Sawyer who signed with USC in February but enrolled in the junior college so he could qualify for the 2015 season.

“Every day, every day he’s on my back,” Jones said. “Why not go to South Carolina. Why not play side by side. He’s doing a good job recruiting for them.”

Jones visited Tennessee Saturday and the Vols made a very positive impression on him.

“It was great, it was great, Knoxville is a great place,” Jones said. “Those coaches are positive enough they are saying they know in the next few years they’ll be winning and they’ll be a chance for an SEC championship. There’s just positive energy around Tennessee right now.”

Jones said he’ll probably visit Clemson this week as well but he’s not pinpointed a day. He lives less than 15 minutes from the campus.

Jones has 19 offers and feels that’s enough to work with and isn’t seeking any others. He does not have a favorites list yet but plans to formulate one in early June.
