With our current lack of quality DEs, obviously one way to address that is by switching to a 3-4 look. While I understand there are some major differences in technique and assignment between a DE and a DT, it made me wonder about the possibility of simply playing 4 DTs at times.

My question is, can anyone think of a team either in college or the NFL that tried a look that was essentially 4 DTs? Would seem odd for no one to have experimented with or been forced into it.

LSU used to have 4 DTs athletic enough to get on the field at once and create a 4 DT front. That would be during running downs back when Glen Dorsey was there and they would also go to 4 DEs on passing situations like our Rabbit package.
