Keiondre Jones set to return; more prospects watch Gamecocks practice

March 27, 2018

Plenty of intrigue

For 4-star guard Keiondre Jones, warmth was of the utmost priority on Sunday morning at Nike’s The Opening annual stop by Buford (Ga.) High School. That’s why the 6-foot-4, 315-pound prospect wore a pair of South Carolina pants during the camp.

Jones (Hogansville, Ga.) shrugged off the idea that his garment could be an indication of which schools he’s leaning toward. His plans for this weekend could be a more reliable indication, though he is coming off two trips to Auburn over the span of about two weeks.

The Gamecocks last had him on campus in January. He’ll be among the contingent of South Carolina recruiting guests at the Garnet and Black spring game on Saturday.

“There’s just something about South Carolina,” Jones said. “I love it down there.”

Offensive line coach Eric Wolford is a big part of the attraction.

“Really, he knows his ball,” Jones said. “He has good technique. He has a proper way of showing it. He has NFL experience, so he knows what it takes to get there. He knows what it takes to stay there. He knows what it looks like to get there. He knows what he’s talking about.”

South Carolina’s improvement under Muschamp has certainly caught his eye, too. Jones also likes the school’s commitment to trying to build a winning program.

“They’re on the come up,” Jones said. “They’re making something big out there. … They’ve got the new facility going up. They’re putting money in the right places. They’re going to be on top soon.”

According to the 247Sports composite, Jones is ranekd as the No. 7 guard in the Class of 2019.

More South Carolina recruiting guests

On Tuesday morning, two prospects were spotted at South Carolina’s practice: 2019 safety Lannden Zanders (Shelby, N.C.) and 2021 quarterback Aaron McLaughlin (Buford, Ga.).

They were joined by at least two more before the end of the Gamecocks workout.

  • 2019 4-star OLB Ge’mon Eaford – Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School
  • 2019 4-star CB Tyrique Stevenson – South Dade (Fla.) High School
Eaford is a former teammate of South Carolina freshman linebacker Rosendo Louis.

South Carolina recruiting prediction

On Tuesday afternoon, Tracey Shrader, the father of 3-star quarterback Garrett Shrader. shared some solid insight on where things stand for the 2019 prospect.

Though predictions for South Carolina and Mississippi State are split on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, the unofficial, official SpursUp Surveillance vote would push things in the Gamecocks’ favor.
