Lattimore, the Gamecocks’ All-SEC junior running back, is halfway through the rehabilitation process after tearing two ligaments in his left knee last season.
He will not participate in spring practice but will take an important step in his rehab while his teammates work out on the field. At some point during spring practice, Lattimore will begin lateral movement running, South Carolina strength coach Joe Connolly said. Until now, Lattimore has done only straight-ahead running.
“He’ll be over at Muscle Beach with me and with (head trainer Clint Haggard),” Connolly said. “He’ll be working hard for sure.”
Lattimore worked out with the team during its winter conditioning drills and is almost back to full strength in many areas, Connolly said.
Lattimore will be joined on the sideline by freshman running back Shon Carson, who tore his ACL during the second game of the season. Carson will not participate in any spring drills, but, like Lattimore, had a productive winter in the weight room, Connolly said.
