3 star LB Brandon Golson (6-2 230) of Georgia Military JC is getting a second shot at playing football at USC. The former Calhoun County star committed to the Gamecocks Wednesday afternoon after making a visit to the campus. Golson actually contacted recruiter Joe Robinson Tuesday night with his plans. Golson first signed with USC in 2010 but the school did not admit him and he enrolled at Fork Union Prep in Virginia. He then enrolled at Louisville but left there after his qualifying test score was invalidated. Golson then moved on to Georgia Military where he had 24 tackles and 5 sacks last season. Golson also had offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Arizona and others. His high school coach, Walt Wilson, said USC is the right fit. "I'm happy for him because that's what he wants to do," Wilson said. "It's a good deal for everybody. He will bring some speed, agility, and the will to want to make plays." Wilson said Golson will play outside linebacker at USC. He will graduate in December and will have two years to play two at USC. He's the 15th commitment for USC's 2013 class.

Golson takes a trip to Aggieland

USC commitment LB Brandon Golson of Georgia Military JC and Calhoun County made a visit to Texas A&M earlier this week. But his high school coach, Walt Wilson, said Wednesday the Gamecocks have nothing to worry about. "He said nothing has changed,' Wilson said. "He said it was a nice place but it's not a place where he can see himself. He went because he's never been to Texas before and he just wanted to visit." Wilson said he's been in contact with USC recruiter Joe Robinson who expressed concern about the visit because he said the Gamecocks are turning players away and want to make sure Golson is solidly in the fold. Wilson said that he is.

Golson says he's solid with USC

USC LB commitment Brandon Golson Thursday night backed up his high school coaches words from earlier in the week saying he's still firmly committed to the Gamecocks despite taking an official visit to Texas A&M recently. Golson, the former Calhoun County star who now attends Georgia Military JC, said the A&M visit was the only one he's taken. "I don't have any other visits planned right now," he said. Golson talked to his Gamecock recruiter Joe Robinson Wednesday. "It's all good with them," Golson said.

Golson and USC marriage on shaky ground

USC commitment LB Brandon Golson said last week he was still committed to USC despite taking a visit to Texas A&M. But that commitment appears to be on shaky ground from both sides. USC apparently is telling Golson his spot may not be saved if he continues making visits. “The kid is going to be alright if they want to play hardball,” Golson’s high school coach at Calhoun County Walt Wilson said this week. “He wants to be a Gamecock but they said they are going to be filled up. The kid may have to make another decision. It ain’t like he doesn’t have other opportunities.” Wilson said Golson will visit Arizona this week and will also visit Kansas State. Wilson said he talked the situation over with USC recruiter Joe Robinson at the high school coaches clinic and told him Golson wants to go to USC but also wants to see some places he’s never seen before. link: http://www.goupstate.com/article/20120727/PSPORTS02/120729653/-1/PSPORTS

Golson is still looking around

08/09/12

Georgia Military JC coach Burt Williams has brought some clarity to the Brandon Golson saga. Golson, a LB who prepped at Calhoun County, was reported here and other places as committed to USC. But Williams says that didn’t happen. “He’s never said that,” Williams said. “He vociferously denied that. He said he never told them he was committed.” Golson has seen other major programs enter the picture, primarily Texas A&M, Arizona and Tennessee. “He kind of wanted to see what was out there for him,” Williams explained. “He liked South Carolina and was happy to get the offer. He’s got a good bit of interest from a number of teams. He knew they might fill up. He’s very interested in South Carolina but they’ve got number issues. He wants to get some things to compare them to, but I know for them it’s coming down to numbers. They would like to have Brandon, but they could fill up if he doesn’t do something.” Williams said Golson is fully aware his USC option is shrinking. “I’ve explained to him what the dangers are,” the coach said. “They could be full right now, or that could change next week. But it’s totally his decision,” Golson has visited Texas A&M and plans to visit Arizona. Williams said he’s hearing from USC recruiter Joe Robinson and the Gamecocks and the Gamecocks will continue to monitor Golson who hopes to be able to graduate in December.

Golson still in touch with USC

Former USC commitment LB Brandon Golson of Georgia Military JC says he has not dropped the Gamecocks from his list, and they've not dropped him from theirs. "I talked to Coach Robinson last week," Golson said. "We're still trying to stay in touch a little bit. Coach Robinson said they still have me on the board." Golson said he's been focusing on his season and has not been anywhere for games, but he hopes to visit USC for the Tennessee game October 27th which corresponds with his open week. Golson said right now he's getting the strongest interest from Texas A&M and Arizona but he said he does not have favorites. He's playing outside linebacker for the Bulldogs and said he is averaging about five tackles per game.

Golson and Gamecocks talking again

12/23/12

USC is looking for another linebacker to add to the 2013 class, and because there is an immediate need, a junior college player would fit the bill. The Gamecocks missed on Tommy Sanders last week when he signed with Texas A&M. One new possibility is former USC commitment Brandon Golson of Calhoun County and Georgia Military JC. Golson has been committed to Arizona since October, but he talked with USC coaches last Friday according to his high school coach Walt Wilson. “He’s always wanted to play at Carolina,” Wilson said. “He found out they lost two linebackers and I contacted coach Spurrier Jr. to get the ball rolling. They are checking on his academics. Coach Botkn has liked him from the start.” Wilson said Golson needs three more classes to complete his academic work and will take those classes at Orangeburg-Calhoun TEC. Golson has three years to play two. Golson and the Gamecocks have history dating back to when he signed with them in 2010. He spent a semester at Fork Union Prep, and when USC would not admit him for 2011, he signed with Louisville. He attended classes at Louisville for that spring semester until his test score was disqualified and he enrolled at Georgia Military. Golson remained interested in USC but took official visits to Texas A&M and Arizona before committing to the Wildcats.
