Mark Fox Jr. details commitment to Gamecocks

January 24, 2018

The 2019 South Carolina recruiting class added a rather large commitment Wednesday morning when Mark Fox Jr. pulled the trigger on his pledge.

Later in the afternoon, the 6-foot-4, 290-pound prospect from Miami-Northwestern High School (Fla.) spoke with SEC Country to detail his commitment to South Carolina.

“I think it was before our state game, [offensive line coach Eric Wolford] was talking to me about real life stuff,” Fox said. “Other colleges weren’t doing that. By Coach Wolf doing that, that was just showing me, Coach Wolf would probably be a really good coach for me to go play for and to just get better with.

“Coach Wolf was a coach in the NFL, and he played, so that was just like a no-brainer.”

Fox made the decision official with a phone call to head coach Will Muschamp.

“He was really happy that I was ready to commit to their school. He’s ready for me to come up there to see the campus,” Fox said.

Trip No. 1 to South Carolina will be in June for Muschamp’s Camp.

While on campus, Fox will have a chance to reconnect with Gamecock defensive end Keir Thomas, a close friend who’s also from the Miami area.

Auburn, Florida, UCF and Purdue were among the offers for Fox, who “might” visit other schools before signing with South Carolina.
