*** MBB SOUTH CAROLINA (16-11, 8-6) vs GEORGIA (14-13, 4-10) Game Thread ***

too many breakdowns on defense and the boards as well as bad decision making, but we hit some big shots and made just enough plays.  ill take an ugly win.

I'd rather win than lose, but this team really makes me angry.    Anyone who thinks this team is good defensively is delusional.   None of our guards knows a damn thing about how to play defense.   ANY guard on ANY team can drive right past ANY of our guards ANY time they want.  And if that wasn't bad enough, this  team can't make FT, and can't play defense without fouling.    I'm pretty sure we foul more than any team in the SEC, and are last in the SEC in FT shooting!  Knowing that, its really amazing that this team is as successful at winning as it is!

I'm not optimistic about the rest of this season.   We play next at Alabama and I think they might score 100 again.   They play a lot of guards who are quick and can score, which is something we don't match up with well.

We deserved to lose because we really played tight. It did not help that the refs called the game close, which is bad for us because we play aggressive D. Plus, we suck at FT shooting. Hopefully we can get our guys re-focused for Bama.

But....how about Frink and McCreary??? Anybody predict that they would reach double digits in scoring - in the First Half???

I sure didn't. Also surprised I didn't see more of McCreary in the 2nd half - he was 5 for 5 in the first, but didn't take another shot.....

Went to the game.  The crowd was great.  Probably about 12-13K I would guess.

Frink has got some good moves under the rim in the paint and he's going to be good for us in the future.  The passes from Kotsar to Frink in the paint worked pretty good tonight.

Maik and Jermaine got to the line and hit their FTs when they needed to.  We would have beaten LSU if the same thing had happened Saturday.

Always love a win against Georgia. Regardless of how sloppy we looked.  Just wish we could find a way to beat Alabama and Miss. St. That could give us a shot.

Official attendance was 11,613 and I think it would have been 14-15K if the game had been on a Saturday instead of a Wednesday.

There was plenty of energy from the crowd last night.  You have to think there would be 15K for the Saturday games if we were consistently winning and the OOC opponents were more well known and/or tied to the heyday of the program under McGuire.  I would like to see a couple of ACC schools on the schedule next year, but I doubt it will happen.

Edwards is  a great player for UGA. We didnt have much to stop him. After their thrid guy fouled out you knew Edwards was going to have to carry the team and he almost did.

But we won and now gotta focus on Bama at Bama which will be a tough game for us. Go Cocks!

How about adding THIS year's UNC team to our schedule? (Hahahaha).

But, of course, that would mean our NET rankings would fall.

Where did last night's version of Frink come from?  Both he and McCreary played well above their seasonal play for the GA game, and was needed.  I remember at least 3 "and 1" plays by Frink.  Kotsar had the high-low pass working.  It was a good thing we dominated the paint because we couldn't hit the broad side of the barn from beyond the 3 line.  What has happened to Bolden since the VA game?  If we could get some consistent outside shooting to go with the current paint game...we would be a pretty decent offensive team.

Gary is right about our defensive efforts against the dribble drive...we are struggling.  For the remaining games on the schedule, we can not afford early foul trouble from Cousinard, because we just don't have the quality point guard help there.  It would have been really nice if Seventh had qualified this year.

Go Cocks!  Beat Bama, Ms State, and Vandy!

I have wondered the same myself.

Frink has always been good in the post offensively. His problem has been on defense. I want to see him be more consistent on both ends of the floor. Both he and McCreary have had games where they showed their potential during Minaya's absence.

We're definitely going to need better guard play if we want to have a chance at beating Bama and MSU. Couisnard really needs to be careful after he picks up his first foul. Having him on the bench for large chunks of the first half really stifles our offense. Statistically, Bolden is our best 3 point shooter, but he goes really hot or really cold it seems. I agree with you that we need more consistency from him.
