South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Tennesse Volunteers Prediction

Tennessee favored despite playing on the road. The Volunteers come in ranked at No. 22 in the latest polls and currently sit near the top of the SEC standings. The Vols covered the earlier meeting this year, winning by 20 points to beat the 15.5-point spread.

The Gamecocks have struggled versus Tennessee, dropping each of their last two meetings. They failed to put the ball in the basket last time out, notching just 46 points against the Vols stingy defense. While the struggles are documented, South Carolina typically plays better against the Volunteers at home. We expect that trend to continue on Saturday.

Winner: Tennessee

I think we have to beat either UT on Saturday, or Kentucky on Tuesday. We are 4-5 in the SEC. If we go 4-7 that's an awfully deep hole to climb out of, and I wonder if we can do it. It would make things very difficult. Hopefully, we will find a way to win at least one of these next two games.

IMO, TN is too big and too fast of a team for our guys. Frank is going to want this to be a slog-fest… a fist fight, pushing their guys to shoot from outside using hard-nosed defense, and they’re going to punish us from the inside as a result. Lots of over the top lobs and back door cuts. I see this one getting away early, similar to Miss. St., without us really getting a chance to get back in it.
Unless we get help from our bigs today, my prediction… UT in a rout.

I also see it playing out this way. It could definitely get ugly.

Looks like a VERY different MBB team today. The usual hard-nosed Defense, but rebounding VERY well on the defensive glass and getting the ball inside to set up the 3 OR taking good shots at the glass.

We played pretty well in the first half. The difference is James for UT. He's making everything he shoots. Have to find a way to stop him in the second half. I think Minott is our best offensive center. He has good hands and is good on the pick and roll. We need to try to get him the ball more. Our best in the first half were Minott, WIlson, Couisnard, Devin Carter. Need to get Reese some shots too.

What I like about this contest so far is that statistically, everything is almost equal. They took two more shots than we did. They have hit more threes, but we’ve made more at the line than UT. We’re playing on ball defense REALLY well and not fouling as a result. That bodes well for us deep into the game, assuming we continue to play that way.

I think this game is over. We just don't have the players to be able to compete with any of the upper half of the SEC. Barring a miracle, we will lose to UK on Tuesday. I wanted Frank to be successful at USC, but I don't believe it is going to happen. He can't recruit players who are good enough to compete. The only chance this team has of making the NCAAT is tto win the SECT, which is extremly unlikely. At this point, I don't even see the NIT as a possiblity. If he hasn't already done so, Ray Tanner should be making a list of possible replacements for Frank. No point in waiting to start that process. The interviews should wait until the season is over, but the search can begin.

Still a lot of time in this contest @Gary The key is getting the ball inside the paint and making some shots. If we can keep TN honest on D then we can go in a run to at least get things close again. We’ve been settling for the 3, instead of taking the good shot from close. I’ve not give up yet, but we’ve GOT to get some turnovers and transition baskets.

Blown out at home by a much better coached and talented team.
Well we lost by 4 more points at home than we did at UT. Like they said during the broadcast, only 8 teams in the NCAA commit more fouls then us. I believe there are something like 310 teams playing basketball.

We can't score and we can't shoot free throws. We are dead last in the SEC shooting FTs and that's with one guy (Stevenson) shooting 97%. Frank has to go.

It turns out that those who wanted Frank fired after last season were right. I wasn't one of those people, but now I am. Frank gotta go.

I was among those that loved the hire and have been a huge FM supporter but it's over.

10 years and no real progress turning over half the team each year before the transfer portal really came into play. Yep time to move on. I wish Frank well I think he is a good individual, but clearly cannot recruit the caliber of player we need.

Me too. His style is just worn out and old. Team look’s unenthusiastic for large stretches. I’m surprised he continues to get players in here but they’re not the type or he’s not the type we need to be competitive. Maybe both. They all fight hard and I’m proud for that but we just look outmatched.

We can't shoot, from the court or the free throw line. Period.

100% true. I saw multiple point blank range opportunities yesterday and we continue to miss them. Other teams get drive to the basket layups but our play style is very tough to watch. When the GD’s from your coach are the loudest thing you hear from the home crowd that’s a bad sign.
