Monday Evening South Carolina Recruiting Notes

Jan. 18, 2016

--All in the family. The Gamecocks are looking to add a QB to their stable with Perry Orth's eligibility being exhausted after 2016. After a planned visit by 2016 Louisville commit Tylin Oden failed to materialize, the staff will hope to make a good impression on 2017 signal caller Jake Bentley. Bentley is the #9 pro-style QB in the country; along with the Gamecocks, the Opelika (Ala.) product holds Auburn, App State, Cincinnati, Georgia, Illinois, Miami (Fla.), Southern Miss, Stanford, Temple, Vandy, Wake Forest and Western Michigan among his other offers. Bentley's father, of course, is Bobby Bentley, the Gamecocks' new RBs coach. The younger Bentley considered Georgia and Stanford his top two as recently as a few weeks ago, but was also mulling the Canes and the Gamecocks.

--Big time DT Webb gets a call. MJ Webb, the #10 junior DT in the country and a top 200 player regardless of position (Rivals), has received an offer from the Gamecocks. It's his 14th offer and eighth from the SEC, joining Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Tennessee. The Morgan County (Ga.) product has also been offered by Clemson.

--Houston offered. Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage junior LB James Houston picked up an offer from South Carolina yesterday. Houston, a three-star recruit, currently holds FIU, Mississippi State, and Wisconsin as his other offers and joins basically a laundry list of players from American Heritage to hold FBS offers. As for Florida, Florida State and Miami, they haven't offered just yet, and it wouldn't surprise us to see Houston hear from them in the next few months.
