More 2020 running backs visit; 5-star DL reportedly sets return

South Carolina among SEC, ACC tour stops
South Carolina is among the schools that have already played host to 2020 running back Jordon Simmons, who saw one of the first Gamecocks practices of the spring.
“The trip was pretty nice. When we first got there, we got to watch them through their whole practice,” Simmons said. “After, they showed us the school, the academic part away from football, then we got to eat with [running backs] coach [bobby] Bentley. Then they showed us some more of the campus, so it was a nice visit.”
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect from McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Ga.) has also been to Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, Florida and Florida State this spring. Simmons plans to make spring game returns to Florida State and Georgia, where his brother Tyler plays wide receiver.
During his trips to South Carolina, the younger Simmons enjoys “spending time with the coaches,” including Bentley.
“He’s a very great coach,” Simmons said. “He likes very big backs. As of right now, I’m working on getting bigger.”
Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oregon and South Carolina have offered.
5-star visit plans
Five-star defensive lineman Zacch Pickens told Rivals over the weekend that he plans to visit South Carolina again on March 31, for the Garnet and Black spring game.
Pickens, who’s from T.L. Hanna High School (Anderson, S.C.), looks forward to “seeing [the Gamecocks] practice really, get after each other.”
Alabama, Clemson and Georgia are among the other schools in pursuit of Pickens. He has no timeline for a decision.
Multi-sport prospect visits
Brandon Fields plays running back on the football team at Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando, Fla.). The 5-11, 195-pound prospect also plays outfield and third base.
Accompanied by Muschamp at Founders Park, Fields watched South Carolina’s baseball game against Florida on Sunday.
Florida, Florida Atlantic, Louisville, South Carolina, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech have offered in football.
According to Perfect Game, his prospect grade is 9.5. A grade of 10 means the prospect is a “very high draft pick and/or elite level college prospect.”
