Another 2019 prospect considering a visit

Three-star 2019 offensive guard Jacob Monk (Wendell, N.C.) is considering a visit to South Carolina on Saturday, but he has some other options, as well. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect could go to Duke with some teammates or he might check out William & Mary, where his cousin plays.

Gamecocks offensive line coach Eric Wolford offered this summer while Monk was in town for Muschamp Camp.

“I thought it was great, knowing [Wolford’s] experience with the game and how good of a coach he is,” Monk said.

Ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 20 guard in the Class of 2019, Monk believes South Carolina’s program is on the rise. He got a firsthand look at the Gamecocks earlier this month at Bank of America Stadium against N.C. State.

“It’s looking like it’ll be great in years to come,” he said. “They’re looking really strong this year already. The thing I noticed is that USC looked real aggressive all day.”

Duke hosted Monk for a visit last weekend.

Gamecocks on the rise

Monk certainly isn’t the only 2019 prospect who sees South Carolina heading in the right direction.

Three-star cornerback Jalen Alexander, who attends Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., lists Auburn and South Carolina as his leaders.

“South Carolina, they’re building right now,” he said. “I like schools that are building. You can come be a part of something that can build it up and help bring a school to its full potential.”

The No. 45 cornerback in the country is friends with South Carolina freshman cornerback Jamyest Williams, a Grayson graduate.

“We never talked about South Carolina,” Alexander said, “But I have talked to him about how he’s doing, and he’s talked to me about how I’m doing at Grayson.”
