Can they get him back?
Rarely do prospects who de-commit from a school re-commit later on down the road. Quantifying that would take entirely too long, but it’s something that everyone in the industry knows to be true.
Is it possible that T.J. Moore re-commits to South Carolina? Sure. Moore wrote in his announcement that South Carolina is still a “top” school for him.
We’ll see how that holds up, but the chances that he ends up at South Carolina are slim. That’s just the general rule of thumb.
In an effort to gain some more perspective on Moore’s decision, SEC Country reached out to Moore’s Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.) teammate Eric Douglas, the 2017 offensive lineman who’s committed to South Carolina.
When asked if he thought Moore would re-commit to South Carolina, Douglas’ response was cut and dry:
“No,” he said. “(I) was shocked when he (committed) in (the) first place.”
Douglas harbors no hard feelings toward Moore.
“I wish him the best wherever he goes,” Douglas said. “Always going to be my bud.”
Where does South Carolina go next?
It’s probably safe to assume that last weekend’s official visitor, Jerry Drake Jr., is one the top priorities, if not the top focus.
Drake, a 3-star recruit from Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High School, is expected to take an official visit to Tennessee. North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Mississippi State are also under consideration.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound prospect is the No. 73 offensive tackle in the country.
Marcus McKethan appears to be an option. The North Carolina commitment from Bardwell (S.C.) High School visited South Carolina two Saturdays ago for the Texas A&M game.
According to the 247Sports rankings, the 6-foot-6, 328-pounder is the No. 128 offensive tackle in the country.
There’s also 3-star target Jordan Carty, who was offered over the summer and has a handful of SEC suitors, including Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi State.
Carty, who’s listed at 6-foot-7, 265 pounds, is from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Fla. According to Rivals, he’s the No. 66-ranked prospect from the state of Florida.
Another name to consider is Devontae Davis, an unranked prospect from Silver Bluff High School in Aiken, S.C. Davis worked out at offensive tackle for the South Carolina coaches at camp earlier this summer.

In spite of the delay from Saturday to Sunday, South Carolina’s coaches attracted several notable recruits for the Georgia game, including 2017 commitments Davonne Bowen, Summie Carlay, Jay Urich, M.J. Webb and Jamyest Williams.
The other visitors included 2017 defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell. The 3-star prospect from Laney High School in Augusta, Ga., also registers offers from Auburn, Florida, Louisville and South Carolina. The No. 21 ranked defensive tackle in the country is listed at 6-foot-3, 325 pounds.
