Another QB to know
South Carolina’s pursuit of another quarterback in the 2018 class rolls on into the month of July and one of the prospects, 3-star Kevaris Thomas, visited a few weeks ago for Muschamp Camp.
“The coaches expected a lot from me and that’s what I gave them,” Thomas told Phil Kornblut. “When the camp was starting, I was basically the only quarterback they wanted to pay attention to because they knew what I was up there for. They told me I was their guy, so I’ve got to prove it to them.”
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect from Lakeland (Fla.) High School also detailed his contact with Muschamp and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.
“I’ve been talking to Coach Roper and Coach Muschamp at least three times a week,” Thomas said. “It’s not really about them giving an offer, just having a friendly conversation. They like that I’m real light on my feet and I can throw the ball really well.”
Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, South Alabama, Temple and USF have offered.

SEC Country’s South Carolina analysis of the 247Sports Crystal Ball has returned. Unfortunately for Gamecock fans, things don’t look so rosy for junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald, who’s on the verge of announcing a decision. Things do look better for 4-star OT Dylan Wonnum, though.
Here’s a rundown of what’s happened since the July 4 announcements from the Gamecocks’ most recent commitments:
3-star DE Dorian Gerald: The visit to Knoxville, during which he was joined by his entire family, seems to have vaulted the Vols into the lead spot. Gerald nearly announced a commitment two weeks ago, but backed off. A decision could come as early as Thursday, and if you’re one who reads into social media activity, there’s plenty of ammo at your disposal to say Gerald is headed to Tennessee.
In the past, Gerald has indicated that he wanted to enjoy his recruitment and have fun with the process, especially since it’s something he was unable to experience as a high schooler.
Could that be what we’re witnessing? Perhaps. But reading tea leaves isn’t always a safe practice when it comes to “predicting” where a recruit is headed. The 247 crystal ball has five votes for Tennessee, and two votes for South Carolina.
4-star OT Dylan Wonnum: The brother of Gamecock sophomore “Buck” D.J. Wonnum continues to trend heavily toward South Carolina. The younger Wonnum was been to Columbia several times over the last 12 months. The 247 crystal ball has all three votes for South Carolina.
