More visitor reaction from the Kentucky game

September 21, 2017

Another 2019 QB emerges

Brian Maurer, a 2019 quarterback from West Port High School in Ocala, Fla., has offers from Florida Atlantic, South Alabama, Southern Miss, South Florida and West Virginia.

Kurt Roper, South Carolina’s co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, continues to evaluate the 6-foot-4, 185-pound prospect. Maurer said the Saturday visit was “great” and he “absolutely loved it.”

“[Roper will] be down in December after the season to watch me throw and would decide to offer me or not then,” Maurer said. “But, as of now, he loved my film and my length.”

Coach Will Muschamp greeted Maurer while he was at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“He was excited to have me up there and [wanted me] to come back soon,” Maurer said. “Also, that he liked my film.”

South Florida already has hosted him for a visit. Trips to West Virginia and Florida are in the works.

Queen City ATH Maleik Faust sees Carolina

Maleik Faust, a 5-11, 190-pound defensive back from Harding University High School in Charlotte, N.C., landed an offer from South Carolina earlier this spring.

Last Saturday, he was in Columbia for the home opener against Kentucky.

“It was really a wonderful experience seeing all the fans and how much support they had for the players,” Faust said.

He added, “It was very awesome to see them up close, person to person.”

Georgia kicker Cole Hanna returns

Norcross (Ga.) High School kicker Cole Hanna performed for South Carolina special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler earlier this summer. They reunited on Saturday, when the 5-8, 160-pound 2018 prospect returned for the Kentucky game.

“It was great. The atmosphere is just crazy. Something that gets me excited from just being there, and I know playing would be even better,” Hanna said. “I also got to see the plans for the new football operations building, and it looks even better than I imagined. The whole visit just confirmed everything that I liked about USC to start out.”

South Carolina is considering Hanna for a preferred walk-on spot, but no invite has been extended. Air Force is also in the mix.
