My quick steps to rebuilding Gamecock football

Dunno.....the CV effect? We are deep in a hole with WRs and the defense is a mess. If we get to 6 wins next season, we should probably be elated.
I think you are 100% correct...I was just saying that 3-4 years is a minimum but heck we have nowhere to go but up

At Houston he was considered a players coach.

Remember the grill, the kissing of players, etc?

Maybe the Longhorns just don't respond to his "hands on" approach?
Urban Meyer will end up at Texas...also I read somewhere that the big boosters are Texas do not like Herman either (or course winning solves everything)

makes sense...I just can't even remember the last time we had an elite offensive player look our way...but you are correct I am sure...I just get tired of seeing us blown off the ball by teams we should be able to compete with
Agree totally with this.  We need a couple of hogs that gobble up blocks in the middle of that DL.

Herman has cleaned up the dumpster fire left by Strong and the team is usually ranked and competitive again ... but not at the level that fans and boosters there think they deserve.

Agreed Ace. I think year 1 is all about "stop the bleeding." Show you were the right hire by having the fan base feel that the first year has righted the ship, then continue upward trajectory from there.

We will know Year One if we made the right move, and then it should get better every year - as the coach fills holes through recruiting, tweaks schemes to fit his players' strengths, makes needed staff changes, etc.
Think it takes more than a year. Year One with Muschamp he trended better than expected and now he gone.

Bringing this back up with context to Shane Beamer.

There may be some interesting developments with the portal/transfer rules.

And how many scholly slots will we have?

Dabo is he has a strangle hold on the best talent instate and out. To build those lines takes good players which you can tell before Chumps fire Gamecocks were 54 in recruiting rankings now in the 90s while Clemson is constant top 3 or 4. Gamecocks will never catch up under the Gamecocks cheat or Dabo moves on I lived through the Danny years lean years beating them. One or two maybe three.
2016- USC 25 and clemsux 11... 2017- USC 21 and clemsux 17... 2018- USC 18 and clemsux 7... 2019- USC 21 and clemsux 10... 2020 USC 19 and clemsux 3   You were saying? In the last 5 year clemsux has signed the top talent in the state twice and USC 3 times, so clemsux did not want Jordan Burch or Zach Pickens or Cam Smith or Otre and Shi Smith...

I understand what you are saying but you way overstated it and posted facts that are misleading when it comes to recruiting in my opinion. I think the big difference is in game coaching, scheme and overall discipline of their teams, Muschamp's teams never found an identity on either side of the ball for any sustained period, they shot themselves in the foot way to often with idiotic penalties or stupid decisions with play calling and on the field antics at the most inopportune times. My biggest critic is the use of personnel, we often in my opinion did not give younger players a chance to play even in blowouts to gain in game experience leaving the team with inexperience year in and year out. Playing Hill at QB game in and game out without even taking a look at Doty, Hilinski or Joyner is the Muschamp era in a nutshell

Your post is spot on, especially the last sentence. WM demonstrated that he was not a leader from the outset. He would keep Bentley in games at the expense of the whole team. I would hear comment like "he's our best chance to win", but we still lost the game. We did not get an opportunity to find out if he was the best option because we never got to see the others.  And when we did, briefly, they were put in situations that were set ups for failure, (running plays that didn't fit their skill set). He would recruit RPO, then not have any RPO schemes for the guys that he brought in.

I think that was one of the biggest factors in Carolina not getting some top level recruits. If the coach was not serious about winning, that kind of talent were not attracted such a program. If a coach is serious about winning, he puts the best talent on the field and gives them the tools they need to succeed, regardless of the sidebar politics. Otherwise, football games become a Saturday gathering, win, lose or draw, without any real consequence.

Hopefully Beamer has learned this at the winning programs that he has experienced.

We should be prepared that it won’t be quick
You do realize to which fan base you are talking, don't you?  If we are 1-3 after 4 games, we will have people on this forum talking about the hot seat and detailing how they were against the Beamer hire all along and how we should have written a blank check for Gregg Marshall because he at least was a former head coach.

And yes, the Gregg Marshall reference was intentional.

+1

DON'T GIVE BONUSES OUT TO THE ASSISTANT COACHES UNTIL THE SEASON, INCLUDING THE POST SEASON, IS REALLY OVER.

Otherwise, enjoy your Belk Bowl.

I just remember Tanner needling Frank about a contract extension during the Final Four run and Frank having to push back to wait until the end of the post-season.  Wait until the season is really over before handing out raises and bonuses, because that's the way the rest of the dang world does it.

I'm hoping this isn't a concern this year.  The only person who should be under consideration this year is whoever was in charge of the team's Covid plan.

I think the first thing that needs to be done and probably the hardest is getting rid of the cancer on our team, in whatever form it is in.  Spurrier had to deal with it when he first arrived and we saw the team get better when it was dealt with.
