Nation’s No. 2 dual-threat QB will ‘definitely’ visit South Carolina this summer

May 16, 2016

Earlier this month, South Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper dispensed an offer to Emory Jones, one of the top-rated dual-threat quarterbacks in the Class of 2018.

Roper visited Jones at Heard County High School in Franklin, Ga., on May 4.

“Coach Roper came to watch me throw and I gave him a call later on that day and he offered me,” Jones said, during an interview with SEC Country.

The four-star prospect is  the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2018. He’s also ranked as the No. 41 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Clemson and Ohio State are among the programs with offers on the table.

In the following Q and A, Jones shares his thoughts on South Carolina and his plans for the summer:

What did Roper say over the phone?

“He offered me a scholarship and said I’m one of the best QBs he’s seen and he wants me to get up for a visit soon, to check them out.”

What all do you know about him and the type of offense he runs?

“I don’t know much about him or the offense, but I’m looking forward to knowing more about him and the school.”

As you’re going through the recruiting process, what are you going to be on the lookout for in a school?“How comfortable I feel with the coaches and the offense, and if they have a good program in what I want to major in.”

What’s your major?

“Sports management.”

What kind of offense are you looking for?

“More of a spread type offense, where I have options to pass and run.”

How about your timeline for a decision? Is there any specific date you’re shooting for?

“Just whenever the time feels right, I don’t have a specific date.”

What are your plans for the summer, have you set any?“I don’t have any visits setup yet.”

Do you think you’ll try to get to South Carolina?“I’m definitely coming up there this summer.”
