New 2020 RB offer out, Georgia LB visits and weekend guests

Fast-rising RB lands offer

South Carolina is among three schools to get in on the ground floor for 2020 running back Demarkcus Bowman, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect from Lakeland (Fla.) High School.

Much to his surprise, North Carolina acted first in September, followed last week by South Carolina and Oregon.

“It’s good. I’m young, only a sophomore,” Bowman said of the early offers. “Over the summertime, all that working out and stuff, it’s starting to feel like all of it’s paying off. … It feels good to accomplish the stuff I’ve really wanted.”

Bowman learned about his offer from the Gamecocks after Lakeland wide receivers coach Will Bahler passed the word along to his mother. Bowman later spoke with South Carolina running backs coach Bobby Bentley.

“He was just saying to keep in contact and call him, stuff like that,” Bowman said.

Beyond that conversation, he doesn’t know much about South Carolina.

“I’ve still got some research to do on them,” Bowman said.

As he moves further along with the recruiting process, he’d like to visit Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan State. Le’Veon Bell of the Steelers is his favorite running back.

Game day visit

Kalen DeLoach, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker from Islands High School in Savannah, Ga., visited South Carolina earlier this season for the Kentucky game.

“It was amazing,” he said. “The crowd was very loud. Everybody was into the game. It was a close game, too, a game they should have won.”

Muschamp and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler spoke with him.

What was their message?

“Just how I would be a big impact if I continue what I’m doing,” DeLoach said.

Georgia Southern and Western Kentucky have also offered. Georgia Tech and North Carolina State are also in contact.

South Carolina recruiting guests

A handful of prospects are confirmed as guests for the South Carolina-Vanderbilt game:

  • 2018 4-star LB Channing Tindall  (Columbia, S.C.)
  • 2018 4-star CB Asante Samuel Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
  • 2018 4-star OT Dylan Wonnum (Tucker, Ga.)
  • 2018 3-star CB Divaad Wilson (Miami)
  • 2018 PK Connor Davis (Ocala, Fla.)
Samuel Jr. and Wilson will be on official visits. They’re committed to Florida State and Florida, respectively.

South Carolina offensive line commitments Wyatt Campbell and Maxwell Iyama are confirmed as unofficial visitors. Offensive lineman Hank Manos, wide receiver Darius Rush and quarterback Dakereon Joyner are regulars at Gamecocks home games, though they haven’t confirmed plans for Saturday.
