South Carolina will be under new direction from a strength and conditioning standpoint next year. TheBigSpur.com has learned that the strength and conditioning coach Joe Connolly was relieved of his duties on Tuesday. Connolly just finished his fifth season with the Gamecocks.

Connolly began his duties as head strength coach on January 20, 2012 after Craig Fitzgerald, one of his mentors, left South Carolina for Penn State.

The assistant strength coaches are being kept for now but they could be relieved of their duties whenever a new strength coach is formally hired.

There are indications, but no official confirmation just yet, that Alabama assistant strength coach Jeff Dillman will be hired at South Carolina. He is believed to be new head coach Will Muschamp’s top target for the position.

Dillman has worked at Florida, IMG Academy, Appalachian State and LSU during his career. He is a graduate of Appalachian State and has worked with offensive line coach Shawn Elliott in the past.
