Dedrrick Holmes
USC this week reached just across the border to Evans, GA in giving safety Dedrrick Holmes (6-1 179) his first major offer. The Gamecocks and Holmes have history dating back to his 9th grade year when he attended a camp. He camped again this summer with the Gamecocks and they got a closer look at him.
“They like my length and they like the way I scout out the field, known as a ballhawk,” said Holmes who had 9 interceptions last season. “They like my ballhawk abilities.” He also broke up 7 passes and had 49 tackles according to MaxPreps.
Holmes also visited USC in March to watch a spring practice and that gave him a better understanding of how the defensive runs under Travaris Robinson who called him with the offer Sunday.
“I’ve seen how it works at practice and I like how they build each other up. I like how they run things there,” he said.
Holmes said he’s also getting interest from Auburn, Miami, Ole Miss, UCF, Georgia, Troy and Georgia Tech. He also visited Troy this summer and he wants to see Auburn. He plans to return to USC for a game this season.
Holmes said he won’t sign until February and is in no rush on a decision as he wants to see what else develops with offers. He considers USC and Auburn as his two favorites and he feels the Tigers will offer at some point.
Holmes also plays receiver and according to MaxPreps had 21 catches for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns last season.
