DE Matthew Butler 6'4" 260lbs, one of South Carolina’s top defensive line targets in 2017, announced his final four on Saturday, seven days after his most recent trip to Columbia.

South Carolina, Tennessee, Duke and NC State made the cut for the 3-star from Garner High School in North Carolina.

After attending the Gamecocks cookout and camp with the Vols, Butler identified four of his favorites in an interview with SEC Country.

“Tennessee is right up there for me, just as South Carolina is … I enjoyed myself there,” he said. “Both South Carolina and Tennessee have really solidified themselves as schools that are high up for me, as well as NC State and Duke, who are up there as well.”

The SEC schools entered into the picture when Butler took a weekend in June to see both for the first time.

“Their persona fits my persona, what I’m trying to do,” he said. “They’re trying to accomplish the same goals with their program and their players as I’m trying to accomplish, so I can see myself at South Carolina.”

“I asked a few questions and they really took my questions into consideration and really made it to where I got the information that I was really looking for, so I appreciated that. The information that I did get, I could see myself at Tennessee.”

Butler plans to announce a commitment sometime this fall.

According to the 247Sports composite, Butler is the No. 27 strong-side defensive end in the class of 2017. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect is also ranked as the No. 20 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina.
