Does Bobo stay on as the OC. Beamer keep anyone else from the old staff on board? Who would you like to see Beamer hire to the staff? Can Beamer hire much needed talented staff?  My last though what do you think of this hiring? Can Beamer do it? Your confidence level at this time that Tanner is making the right choice? Lot's to talk about. I know nothing is signed but we know enough that we can inquire about the above topics.

Bobo is a tough one.  I think he's a great coach and I'd love to keep him on staff, but I don't know how that would work if the Garret Riley rumors are true.  Would Bobo be willing to step down as OC into maybe a regular coaching position with maybe an Asst Head Coach title?  Historically, Bobo has done a lot of work with the QB's, how would that work with Shaw?  I'm really hoping that Shaw is retained in a coaching position by whoever becomes the HC.  As a fan with no program connections, it appears to me that Shaw is such an asset to the program on so many levels, but who knows...?

Hey, with all the talk about Coaches I think this hire can down to monies, no doubt about it with that said Beamer or Chadwell seem to be the choices for the cocks, and I think what has sealed the deal is a lot of noise from the former players about Beamer, they really this he is smart and can make good choices for the players I could be wrong I think if it's Beamer he will make an impact right  away . As far as staff goes here are my thoughts.

1- Connor Shaw - has to be on staff at some role .

2- Mike BOBO - QB Coach  assistant head Coach

3- Derick Mason - D.C.  Coach or former V.T. Coach   would love to have Bud.

4- Riley - O.C. Coordinator, these would me my must haves to get started the first day.

5.  Houston Texans - L.B. coach

6  Analyst his dad on staff for mentor. Frank Beamer

Shaw, Kitchens from current staff and figure out a way to hold Bobo in some capacity at least until 5 star Stockton from GA  signs.

Agree money hire. How the outcome plays out we will see. Just hope it is not a Richard Bell type hiring. Former players and fans cried to hire from Carlen Staff, Bell was the DC at that time and he lasted only 1 year. If Tanner fails here really time for him to step down. This should be his last shot at hiring a football coach. I am open, but Leary here. who they hire for the staff. at this point really don't care just turn the program into a winner and beat the tatars.

Would love for Beamer to bring in his dad as an analyist / mentor type role. Who knows if he would be up for it. But is an interesting proposition.

Richard Bell, man hope not you know you're getting old when his name comes not a lot of young people remember Bell woo what a mess that would be

Yep was in my late 20s when that went down.

Would prefer Mason over Foster; his defenses didn't seem to evolve towards the end of his tenure and Mason's recruiting ties to our area would be invaluable.

I still like Derrick Mason - even if Beamer does not know him, Mason is the type of guy that Beamer could hire and just let him run things. Bud Foster is good too, but older and his Defenses were not as strong towards the end. The fact that we were looking at him when we got Ellis Johnson - who is no longer actively coaching - says a lot.

I think that we need to look at some of the current D coaches - Rocker, Peterson and Rod Wilson would all be solid guys to keep. If we get Mason, he might have some of his old Vandy D staff to bring along. If it is Foster, he would not have any active coaches to bring along, so he can fill in with what we have.
When you have a coach who is a manager and not an offensive or defensive savant, it just makes the OC and DC that much more critical. I know Riley is a hot name ... but would love to keep Bobo as OC if that doesn't pan out. On the defensive side, we have more work to do and I would absolutely pray we could get Mason here. Foster's legend was bigger than his numbers at the end of his career - his last few defenses just weren't very good at Tech.

I actually like the idea of Beamer and Garrett Riley as a package...that means Bobo's out.

If you keep one coach from the current staff it needs to be Des Kitchens.

I love Shaw but not sure what you do with him...'100% Gamecock Warrior' isn't exactly a real job...even though it should be.

Bud Foster...hmmm...yes he's a bit long in the tooth and for some reason people seem to think about the last year of his gig at VT...2018...instead of the hall of fame level career as a whole...but what they seem to forget is that in 2017 his defense was ranked 4th in scoring defense, led the nation in opponent completion percentage and was 2nd on third down conversion rate...pretty solid...Foster won the Broyles Award once and been a finalist 3 other times...I gotta admit...I'm intrigued by the mix of new school leadership and high flying offense and old school grown man toughness and defense...Bud now working with Shane...all that history...family...we will see

Not opposed to Foster, but not excited either. Most coaches seem to lose some of their mojo - or maybe they just get burned out - when they get older. It happened with Lou, Spurrier, Bobby Bowden and others. You can still pitch, you just don't have your plus fastball anymore.

I would go with Derrick Mason first, then Foster. But as long as they both believe in blitzing , we can't lose either way.

Connor Shaw has learned from the best - his dad was his HS Coach, Spurrier, time in the pros - and knows the QB position. Doty and Shaw have similar skill sets and Shaw could teach hin well.

Also, Gunnar Stockton - our hot Dual Threat QB commitment - plays for Jaybo Shaw, Connor's brother, and is coming here, in large part, because of Connor.
My first choice DC would be Mason. But I think Bud Foster is a solid pick. Not too concerned about being long in the tooth. All the same was said about Ellis Johnson when he came on board. And he is the best DC we have had in recent times. Something to be said about experience.

I don’t know this, but it’s not too far fetched to think if Shane gets the job, that Frank may move to SC, since Shane’s sister lives in Greenville.

Look what happened to Mack Brown.  I thought he had one foot in the coaching grave at the end of his Texas days but that time off from being a HC may have done him some good and let him "get refreshed".

True - but he will have a pretty short shelf life.

But the key with Mack Brown - and it is also true for Dabs - is learning to be more hands-off, once you have the right coordinators in place. Being away from coaching seems to help with that realization - that you need to look at the big picture, and not sweat the small stuff. Boom never got that part. If he focused on being an administrator, recruiter and PR guy, he might still be around.
Probably, but maybe getting Foster and Beamer Sr. together one last time might just be the spark Shane needs to get something started.

According to postings from another site, this isn't over and Billy Napier is still scheduled to interview on Sat.

Hold on to yer lugnuts!
