Thought this was important enough to warrant a spot for any information..it will certainly be a factor in determining Beamer's retention beyond next year.

With the firing of Shula, it was announced that Mike Furrey and Shawn Elliot will be co-offensive coordinators for the remaining season. And announced today, Furrey will be the primary play caller for games.

Couple of stats from Furrey's time as head coach at Limestone:

2023

30.4 points per game
448.2 yards per game
274.8 passing yards per game
162.9 rushing yards per game

2022

34.8 points per game
464.3 yards per game
257.3 passing yards per game
197.9 rushing yards per game

theres always the chance that furrey lights it up and shane names him oc but thats probably not realistic, not what the fanbase wants, and shane knows he either nails this hire or hes done. furrey was the best choice to call plays and if hes a success it only makes beamer look worse for not making a move sooner. at least hes given him an extra week to prepare.

I can only imagine CSB will be looking at several candidates. I can also imagine a lot of people will voice their recommendations.
Just yesterday TheBigSpur recommended he hire Brad Glenn, the OC at Cincinnati.
He seems to have some decent stats, but I would really like it if CSB could lure in someone with more experience in SEC or BIG 10 conferences. I do not really think NFL experience would necessarily work in the college environment. I mean they were coaching "PROS". Not kids trying to learn how.
LSU, Auburn, Florida, and Arkansas all fired their Head coaches. How many of them might still have their job if they had better OC's? How many of those OC's are interim HC now?
I just think we would have been better off looking for a new OC last year when we had a lot better record. How many experienced OCs are ready to go try and turn around a losing program? Regardless of previous experience, this will be a tough job to teach them brand new stuff this late in the season.
Coach Furrey will have to use plays they have already learned with minor edits. It's not like he can just bring in a brand-new play book.
I really do not think we will get a new OC until the end of the season anyway.
