Four-star offensive lineman Patrick Allen 6'5" 286lbs (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) likes South Carolina, but it is just one of a handful of schools he’s still considering. The former Georgia commitment is still considering the Bulldogs but he’s also thinking about Tennessee, Oklahoma and others.

“I want to look at South Carolina,” Allen said. “I got a message from Texas Tech, so I’m going to look at them, too. I like South Carolina too.”

After decommitting from Georgia on January 2, Allen’s initial plan was to announce his decision at Sunday night’s Sempre Fidelis All-American game. He decided to axe that plan though and take some time to make a decision. He said he will make his final decision on signing day.

“How good I feel with the school and the coaching staff,” Allen said, when asked what he’s looking for in a school. “Basically the area and the people down there. I’m not directly going for the coaches, I’m going for the school and how I feel in that area. That’s going to decide it.”

What will hurt Allen in making a decision is he’s already taken all five of his official visits. He committed to the Bulldogs in August but took all five trips - Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee, Arkansas and Georgia - during his season.

He wanted to take all of his trips in the fall so he could concentrate on his academics later. Said the plan worked and he’s been cleared by the NCAA.

“At the beginning of the year, I thought I had a set five,” Allen said. “When I took my officials, they were good and all. I just wanted to get them out of the way so I could focus on my schoolwork. That’s what my momma thought I should do and it was the best option for me to do that, too.”

Allen backed off of his commitment to Georgia because of the departures of offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and position coach Will Friend. He said he hasn’t completely eliminated the Bulldogs though and what he’s looking for in a hire there is, “just a guy that I can work with and get better.”
