South Carolina needs help on the offensive line and it turned to a college All-American. Offensive line coach Shawn Elliott offered Wake Forest transfer Cory Helms 6'4" 305lbs , who was a  Freshman All-American in 2013, a scholarship on Sunday morning and Helms has set an official visit.

Its been an eventful weekend for Helms, who also grabbed offers from Texas A&M and Penn State. Helms has set up official visits to Texas A&M for January 18, South Carolina on January 23 and Penn State for January 30.

With the official visits still to take, Helms' knowledge of the schools he's considering is still pretty basic but he knows they are some of the best places in college football. There are a few things that stand out in Helms' mind about the Gamecocks.

"They're in the SEC, have great coaches, is close to home and can compete for championships," Helms said"What's not to like? Also hear that South Carolina has great facilities."

Helms has spoken with Elliott, who has at least a couple of spots to fill in the 2015 recruiting class. Helmspounds, has played each of the last two seasons and would almost certainly have to sit out the 2015 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"I've talked to Coach Elliott a couple times and he seems like a great coach and a great guy," Helms said. "He seems like a guy that will get the best out of you."

Helms started 23 out of 24 games during his career at Wake Forest. The only game he didn't start came on Senior Day of his freshman season when he gave up his starting role for a senior backup. Helms was the starting center his freshman season but moved to guard as a sophomore. According to his Wake Forest bio, Helms was offered by South Carolina out of high school.

He earned all-metro, all-region and high school All-American honors during his days at Milton High School and was awarded first team All-Region 5-6A honors as a senior. He was the starting center for the Blue team in the Offense-Defense All-America Bowl in Houston. Helms carried a three-star, .8413 rating in the 247Sports Composite out of high school.
