USC is very much in the mix with former Wisconsin commitment 4 star OL Sam Madden 6'7" 325lbs of Barnegat, NJ. Madden’s original plans were to visit USC this coming weekend but his father said Tuesday night they are going to Georgia this weekend and USC January 30th. Madden is looking at Florida, Ole Miss and Arizona State for his other official visits.
Dave Madden said they have talked with USC recruiting coordinator Steve Spurrier Jr. by phone a couple of times and USC recruiter GA Mangus is scheduled for a home visit Wednesday.
“We love the disappointing season they (USC) had last year because they’ve got a major chip on their shoulder, and we like that,” Dave Madden said. “Clearly coach Spurrier has got a heck of a career behind him and has a great staff. It’s not a program that has to do much to sell itself. I like that they had a rough year because they are going to be absolutely passionate to show everybody what they are.”
The Maddens did not expect to be back on the market in late January. The commitment to Wisconsin was solid and was only broken when the Badgers informed Sam Madden he couldn’t enroll early.
“It was a rude shock last Tuesday that brought us to this point,” Dave Madden said, “but it’s been a blessing and has brought some opportunities he wasn’t exposed to previously. The Gamecocks offered last year but they were filling up so fast we didn’t have time to make a visit so we couldn’t commit. The way things work out, now we get an opportunity and we’re really, really excited about that.”
Madden does not yet have a favorite moving forward and his father knows the family will be be facing another tough decision.
“It’s tough, it is really tough,” Dave Madden said. “Each of them have something very special about them. Each of them have an interested aspect. There’s different dynamics to the coaches. Some are younger, some are older. Sam just needs to go and find where he’s comfortable and we want the school to feel comfortable. ”
Dave Madden said he will join his son on his official visits and the plan is for his son to sign on National Signing Day.
