Paul Finebaum said he cringes, at times, when fans openly campaign for a coach to get a job like the Gamecock faithful did at South Carolina for Shane Beamer.

“But they were right, this time,” Finebaum said on “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX out of Birmingham, Alabama. “I don’t know where I’ve seen a better combination of fit of coach and fan base all melding. I know the (Josh) Heupel conversation has gone on and we all know and agree that he’s worked wonders there and it’s primarily because he’s smart. He doesn’t have the personality of a Shane Beamer, but Shane Beamer is just a natural.” (Read SDS)

I believe Paul sees the potential goldmine between the fanbases of us and Clemson if Shane can get the program back on its feet and whack the Taters this coming season.

Realistically Bama is still in the stratosphere with his call-ins from Bama and Auburn, much like Clemson has been with us, but I do think Clemson will be mortal this coming season.

Dabo is still perceived as a bad winner and Paul has to be licking his chops over the possibilities in the coming season and not just with our rivalry.

I have said Dawn and Dabo are alike in many ways in recent years, but Dabo would have to coach an NFL team from the play-offs to the Super Bowl to accomplish what Dawn has away from Carolina with her Olympic teams and such.

I think you are right about Clemson being beatable this year. Time will tell, but something seem off with them, in my opinion. Clemson's success happened when Venables came there. Oddly enough, Clemson opened the check book, and suddenly they got a great recruiting class, but they also got Venables. My theory is that Venables was actually running the program. I think Dabo is a blowhard doofus, who can' t coach his way out of a paper bag. Perhaps I am wrong, but we will see how they do this year with him. Their fans blame last year's disappointing season on injuries, but we will see if it was that or if Dabo can really coach and if he has made the right moves. I think they are on the downward trajectory, and we are on our way up. All things are cyclical.
