We made the Top 15, a decent run in the SECT, and made it to an NCAAT Regional.

But we lost the handle on fundamentals in May.

Man, I don't know.

His payout is down to $400,000. Time to move on. Look at the coach UT has. Was never a Head coach but he is doing a great job.

Look at who we lose vs who we have coming back. Not reasonable at this point to expect any better next season barring some major development or portal players in the off season. Point is firing him and we’re in rebuild. Keep him and we probably maintain at best.

Maintain?

Hmmm....Let's see, someone correct me if this is wrong.

Raleigh regional: Played 28 innings of baseball, led for 1 inning

Batted 1/18 with runners in scoring position (.055)

Also committed 17 errors in last 8 games and went 4 - 10 the last 14 games.

This is not GC baseball, it's time for a change.

Yes that’s why I said at best. It’s no one year turn around either way as things look right now. I’m not sure Kingston can get the job done nor am I confident that we can get a top coach to come in and do it quickly.

I voted I don't know. At this point we're just a decently good program. Nowhere near what we've been used to seeing. I feel like we've reached the limit under Kingston, but I'm not sure if we can hire anyone that can get us back to where we want to be quickly.

I know we have a tendency to give coaches some extra time to make it work, and I would have rather given Holbrook an extra year or 2 but that's probably just me. I don't know for certain, but I feel like our winning percentages were better under Holbrook.

Before the transfer portal came about, we were stuck with basically same players under the same coach if nothing was done.

With baseball, I think winning the regular season conference championship is more important than how far you go in the SECT, as opposed to basketball where making the NCAAT is the sole purpose for existing.

We had the best run in the SECT this year than we have had since 2004. You don't accidentally fall into the CWS.

I just don't understand how we could have such a sharp drop-off in fundamentals in May without any major injuries.

So maybe being able to use the portal to get instantly better saves Kingston's job this time around. I don't know.

Here is what Kingston stated,
Do you think you have the support of the administration to get the program to where it needs to be?

"I think everybody at South Carolina wants to win at a high level."
And because his team did not win at the high level, maybe the administration should give someone else a shot.
We all know that championship teams can be built here in Columbia. Tanner did it back when there was not a Portal. All he had was recruiting and training to make a team that scored championship 2 years in a row.
I would love to see us get a new coach that can turn things for the better, but if Kingston could somehow use the portal and recruits to make this team work, I wish it would happen this next season because I can't stand too much more.

Ouch.

I voted for a change in leadership. Something isn't working correctly in the program...and hasn't for a while. Time to bring in another manager.

Less than 24 hours later, Kingston was relieved of his duties. There was a team meeting held on Monday at 10:45 a.m.

Assistant coach Monte Lee will be named the interim head coach as South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner conducts a search for Kingston's full-time replacement.

I think if there are no really good candidates available, Sign Monte for a 2-year trial. If he can get us back to the NCAA in one year, then give him an extension for 3 more.

Landon Powell?

I thought at the time that Tanner hired Monte as a fallback in case things went south with Kingston. Since Lee was Tanner's assistant, I am sure Ray has gotten the straight dope on what went wrong with the team this year from him after Kingston was let go.

Dylan Brewer, Austin Brinling, Gavin Casas, Garrett Gainey, Ty Good, Parker Noland and Dalton Reeves walked on Senior Day.

Five portal Seniors and two traditional Seniors.

We get Messina back, but I don't see why he wouldn't declare for the draft after the year he's had.

For draft-eligible juniors, I would bet it depends on the amounts they can get from NIL vs the signing bonus.

I sure hope they get some extra NIL for Messina. It would be a shame if they don't try and keep him one more year.
But it is not necessarily money. It really depends how high he gets picked.

Athletes don't really fit the clean-cut Steve Garvey mold anymore. From a marketing standpoint, do guys with mullets from hell and scraggly beards fit any sales image for something other than a sports/energy drink?

That's the grain of slat I see with NIL aside from outright paying players a salary.

Maybe a Bluechew endorsement?
