There's been some discussion about this along with everything else that is going on with college football right now.

So what do you guys think?

I voted no, in that I don't think Clemson can afford the buyout. It would take a mutual dissolution of the entire conference for Clemson to leave. Currently, the exit fees are around $50 million plus the loss of all media rights through 2036, The loss of media rights for 14 years is a firm deal breaker, for any team.

Yeah, Clemson is essentially the bulk of the ACC Network right now.

The guys on 107.5 have also been saying that Clemson doesn't really add much of a viewing audience that isn't already there, either.

A regular full-time SEC schedule would bring Clemson down to Earth just like it will with Oklahoma and Texas in 2025.

clemzen would be crazy to leave that year after year creampuff schedule they enjoy.

Also as mentioned they bring nothing to the table in terms of adding TV sets because the SEC is already in the State of SC.

The SEC should be trying to get (for example) NC State and Va Tech to add to the TV footprint.

I selected yes based on the assumption that with all the conference realignment, I think the ACC may get pilfered and dissolve in the next year or two. Pac 12 will probably merge with Big 12 as all the teams move around.

In a world without buyouts and grant of rights deals, I think that Clemson would definitely join the SEC if given the opportunity. However, I don't think they will because of those 2 issues. Maybe the conference dissolves and those issues become moot, but until then it has to be a no.

No for now, but who knows down the road.

I think so because bigger $ and lawyers can find a way out of or into almost anything. I also don't think cu suffers from the 'vaunted' SEC schedule like many think. They've lost a large chunk of their coaching brain trust but still manage to recruit very well. They've also had very respectable success against most of the SEC teams they've faced in recent years. Adding mizzou, vandy, miss st, and other similar teams is about the same as unc, pitt, BC, miami, fsu.

WYFF CH 4 just reported. Said Clemson spokesman said Clemson would go to SEC without question if it works out.

SEC is going after Clemson, UNC, UVA, and Notre Dame...they may not get all of them but I would wager a guess Clemson and UNC would jump at the chance...Notre Dame and UVA to the B1G if not the SEC...

Clemson, UVA, and UNC fit due to either being the state flagship school or a large land grant....if those 3 come and Notre Dame chooses not to...go after Duke to make the conference interesting in basketball as well....it would certainly give folks around the SEC something to look forward to in the winter to go along with the SEC women's basketball programs...I saw on another site the DUKE/UNC rivalry for basketball is worth around a billion dollars...

UVa and UNC feel like a better fit culturally for the B1G instead of the SEC

I honestly don't think UNC will do anything without Duke.

Yes, they will join if invited. It would be stupid to leave the ACC since it's so weak now but given the uncertainty of the longevity of the conference I'm sure they'd leave. I'm curious to see how their new D coordinator does this year. He still has Venables players so he may do ok. Will he sustain it once his players are gone? I don't think so.

It was reported in an earlier thread that it would cost Clemsucks $500 million to get out of the ACC. Where would that money come from? Is there a GOLD MINE in the upstate that I have not heard about? Taxpayer money? If that happens every taxpayer should revolt.

Probably a certain church in the Upstate is about to get awfully creative with its offering plate.

Actually any money raised will probably go to pay lawyers in finding a slim loophole to exploit regarding the media rights deterrent to leaving the ACC,

I'm sure however it plays out clemzen will come out of it smelling like a rose.

Graham Neff, an internal hire, replaced Dan Radakovich as Clemson's AD this past December.

Remember Dabo complained about just having to play one more CFP game not too long ago.

Will Neff and the school go with or against Dabo?

I voted "No" because I think Dabo would be against the move and newbie Neff will play it safe and not piss off Dabo, for now at least. LOL

Talking heads say in the Media Rights Contract there is an out, a free one. Thats provided a certain number of teams agree to leave the ACC or if it totally implodes and goes away.

How many teams would have to leave to void the grant of rights?

Clemorrhoids use the same argument, that they have done well against the SEC. The big difference is doing it once a year and doing it week in and week out are two totally different things. They played Georgia first last year, and got beat up unlike any ACC team could ever do. They had so many injuries, and never recovered from it all year.
