QB Jake Bentley out 6 weeks with foot injury, Ryan Hilinski in line to start

I think Jake occasionally gets the yips and that's where his bad throws come from.

That's all mental.

Maybe Ryan being his first legitimate competition since he's been here may have something to do with it.

I think Jake will take the medical redshirt/exemption, but couldn't he also play in three more games if he is able to come back before he makes that decision, or is that just with transfers?

Ryan not the cure all, their are other positions that are in need of change. But it is a start and recruiting has to get better at the other positions. Just for transfer. Over the 3 years he has been here he has had that tendency to over throw. Some QB's can  make the change others will keep falling back to the tendency with out thinking. Very hard to break and coaches fall into that category too.

Had Jake not been injured, I was just going to give the team until the Bama game to get it together and go from there.

TE, Secondary Offensive line real areas of concern.  Linebackers Defensive Line need to step it up and WR's  need to fill the Vacuum left by  Deebo departure to the NFL. Almost forget Running backs. Got to get the running game going. Not a recipe for winning and going bowling.

Jake has given his all for this team.  I’m thankful to him for that and wish him a speedy and full recovery.

I don't wish anything bad on Jake, either, I just don't think he is the best choice in QB's for our team.

That's what I am wondering. Was Jake playing through the pain and not even telling the coaches? And when we got behind, was he just fighting the injury to try and get us back in front? That would have been dumb, but he wasn't thinking he couldn't do it. He was just trying to win regardless.

I know I said a few bad things about his play Saturday, but none of us know how much he may have been hurting. I kinda feel bad for what I said but still wonder if Hilinski could have got us back in the lead?
Now that I know it supposedly happened on the very last play, I guess he was not playing in pain after-all.

Our secondary is still anemic. Not much progress in 3 years. It’s easy for me to arm chair qb but I would think dbs would be taught from very early on to look for the Ball. It’s hard to do when you’re beaten so badly that you’re on a dead sprint to recover I guess. And for the love of goodness, can someone teach someone how to wrap up when we tackle? Looking forward to the changes champ makes and how the team gets around the new qb. In my opinion it’s not about Jakes talent, it’s a about his inability to make players around him better and play for him -that’s what separates mediocre from good. I’m still believing we are on an upswing

He is a great kid and my heart breaks for him.  I can’t imagine being him and having dreams of a strong senior season and possibly hearing his name called on draft day.  It’s not just him but his whole family and friends, teammates and fans, everyone pulling for him and then to go out like that.  I’m sure he feels like he let everybody down.  He didn’t do anything wrong and I have no doubt he tried his best. It’s an unforgiving sport.

Jake came to USC college ready, but he was already as good as he was going to be as a true freshman.  It makes sense with his dad being who he is, living football 24/7, playing as a starting QB his whole life.  He had so much experience at a young age he was at his prime in HS.  There just wasn’t much room for development and he simply hit his talent ceiling early.   We kept expecting him to make that jump to an elite QB all 4 years but it’s just not there.   That’s ok, he’s gonna be a good man and a strong leader with character no matter what he does in life.

I don’t know what he will do.  I’d like to see him stay and battle for the starting job next year.  I think it all depends on how Ryan fares this year.  Either way we’re gonna take some lumps this year.  It’s not gonna be pretty.  Next year may be worse with everyone we lose.  It’s hard to see Muschamp still here in 3 years and that really sucks.

Great post

Don't either.   I've always liked his attitude and professionalism, enthusiasm, but I think he peaked a couple seasons back.  He's still a Gamecock and always will be in my mind.   Next man up and I'm hoping RH is just the spark this offense needs to get rolling.  We need some momentum and excitement for upcoming games.

In regards to tackling it should be a help that we get Ibe back this week and Jam doesn't play as much. He is small and not a good tackler but I think would benefit from being a KR/PR and slot WR... too bad we won't see that change though.

Believe it or not, there are a few enduring mysteries left in this world, such as....

Does God exist?

Are we alone in the universe?

Is the Loch Ness Monster real?

How does a plant-based patty taste like a hamburger? And...

How in the world has Jake Bentley regressed this bad??????
