The New Orleans Saints have been attempting to figure out the quarterback situation ever since franchise quarterback Drew Brees retired. After having the likes of Jameis Winston, Derek Carr, Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill in the mix, it appears that they may have drafted the next quarterback for the future in Spencer Rattler.

According to reports that came out of the Saints minicamp, Rattler is making waves and showcasing his abilities thus far.

Rattler was expected to be an automatic first-round pick entering college football but things did not work out that way. He ended up dropping to the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and was the seventh quarterback selected in the class.

People are expecting to see Rattler on the field during the season if Derek Carr does not look too well under center or if the team gets off to a slow start this season.

Good for him. I really hope he can secure a roster spot as a solid back-up. Then he can grow from there.

I have a lot of respect for Spencer Rattler. He came to Carolina with clear dreams of playing in the NFL and was dealt an offense with limited line and running back talent and an overly complex scheme from the coordinator. He took a pounding most week and never complained or took shots at his line. Much respect. I hope he gets a shot in New Orleans and shows what he can do with some blocking.

In-laws are all Saints homers living in nola…….they don’t even know the Saints drafted him. This is the best thing that could ever happen.

Rattler is a very good QB. It will be nice to see him play with some protection and a D that is having to watch out for the RB as much as they are watching the QB.

Here is the Saints' pre-season schedule:
  • Week 1: at Arizona Cardinals, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. ET
  • Week 2: at San Francisco 49ers, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. ET (FOX)
  • Week 3: vs. Tennessee Titans, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. ET (NFL Network)
It will be cool to see how the QB competition fares with Rattler. He made all the right moves for us last year despite our mediocre record.

Derek Carr got the start against the Niners, then Taysom Hill scored a TD on a 1-yd run in the 2nd quarter.

Rattler played next before the half, but got sandwiched behind the LOS and fumbled.

He stayed in to open the 3rd quarter and moved the ball well enough for Saints to get a FG. Haener finished the game, but couldn't put any points on the board.

Niners get 16-10 win, but Rattler has put points on the board for them the last two games. Hopefully things will gel up better for the Saints in last pre-season game.

When are the final roster cuts? Hoping he has secured the #2 QB spot.

2. With preseason over, the team will now have to cut the roster down from 90 active players to 53 by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Dennis Allen will speak with the media on Tuesday at 4 p.m. which Saints fans will be able to watch live on NewOrleansSaints.com as well as Saints social media platforms.
