RB CJ Freeman help gives Muschamp a day to remember & could lead to more good news this week

CJ Freeman
New USC football coach Will Muschamp enjoyed perhaps his best day thus far at USC Tuesday with a commitment, a re-commitment and a confirmation of an existing commitment. The day certainly gives energy to Muschamp’s recruiting efforts at USC which could be bolstered further on Wednesday with a commitment from DB Jamarcus King of Coffeyville JC, KS, and perhaps later in the week with news from quarterback Brandon McIlwain that he will enroll in January.
Capping Tuesday was the announcement by RB CJ Freeman of Greensboro, NC that he was sticking with his commitment made to the previous staff last March. Freeman is enrolling early and he signed his financial aid agreement with the Gamecocks as well Tuesday night.
Coming off a broken ankle late in his junior season, Freeman didn’t get back to full health and running mobility until late in the season. He averaged over 200 rushing yards per game in the playoffs and finished the season with 2091 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Freeman never decommitted from the Gamecocks but his commitment strength weakened after Steve Spurrier resigned. He took official visits to Georgia Southern, Wisconsin and Louisville before visiting USC and Muschamp last weekend. That visit eased any concerns he had, and with USC’s lack of depth at running back, Freeman sees the opportunity for early playing time in the SEC.
Freeman’s decision followed that of WR Bryan Edwards of Conway who recommitted to the Gamecocks and DE Sadarius Hutcherson of Huntingdon, TN who committed over Memphis, Illinois and Arizona State.
The Gamecocks now sit with 15 commitments in their 2016 class though several are planning to visit other schools in January and could come off the list.
