Recruiting May 25th: Latest on OrTre Smith; Could former Auburn DB land at USC? Florida DB has USC on short list; Two more for Johnson; USC offers another Swilling

WR OrTre Smith of Wando and his mother had talked about visiting USC and Clemson last Friday but their schedules weren’t conducive to an all day trip so they are now looking at June for getting out and seeing several schools.  Smith plans to narrow his list to seven or eight schools soon and from that list he will set visits this summer. “If Tre could visit all the schools that’s offered him he would,” said Smith’s mother Tashia Green.  “We’re going to have to wait for him to say this is where I want to go visit.”  USC and Clemson continue to contact Smith and his mother on a regular basis.  She said he’s not picked up any new offers but he’s been hearing recently from Maryland. Some of his other offers are Florida State, Louisville, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and West Virginia.

Something to keep an eye on over the next few weeks as it pertains to USC is the decision of former Auburn DB Tim Irvin (5-9 194) .  He announced on Twitter Tuesday night he will transfer after one season with the Tigers.  Irvin was recruited to Auburn out of Miami by current USC head coach Will Muschamp, and his position coach with the Tigers was current USC defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.  Irvin was committed to Texas over Florida, Miami and West Virginia  before Muschamp flipped him to Auburn.  Playing primarily as the nickel, Irvin had 18 tackles in 10 games and broke up two passes last season.

WR Austin Connor of Dutch Fork has seen his recruiting activity slow to a crawls.  “No new visits or offers, no visits planned and haven’t talked to any colleges lately,” he said.  “I still have no idea when I’m going to make the decision.” Connor adds that he hasn’t heard from USC but he remains interested in the Gamecocks.  He said he does not have a favorite.  Some of his offers are USC, Georgia, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Tennessee, Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Harvard.

USC Tuesday night offered 2018 WR Jahan Dotson of Nazareth, PA. He also has a Clemson offer.

DB Tavyn Jackson of Tallahassee has a top list of USC, Auburn, Mississippi State, UCF, Oregon State, Memphis and Indiana.

Tennessee and Michigan State Tuesday offered DE Brad Johnson of Pendleton.

USC offered LB/RB Bruce Jordan-Swilling of New Orleans.
