Recruiting Notes For Tuesday 1.17.17 (UPDATED 5:25)

DE Aaron Sterling of Tucker, GA is now set with his official visits the rest of the month.  He went to NC State last weekend.  He will visit Georgia this Thursday and Friday and Tennessee Saturday and Sunday.  He will make USC his final official visit the last weekend of the month.  He is not indicating a favorite at this point. USC head coach Will Muschamp was in last week to see Sterling according to Tucker coach Bryan Lamar.  And Monday Muschamp and receivers coach Bryan McClendon were in to check on juniors at the school.  Last week Muschamp offered 2018 WR Josh Vann.  He had previously offered 2018 OL Dylan Wonnum whose brother will be a sophomore with the Gamecocks.

Concord, NC High School coach Glenn Padgett has not yet talked with USC commitment DB Hamsah Nasirildeen since his official visit to USC last weekend.  School was out on Monday and is in exams today and Nasirildeen exempted the morning exams and thus didn’t need to come to school.  Padgett said he will get with him on Wednesday.  But he said he has talked with USC coaches since the visit. “What I heard from the coaches there at South Carolina is it went well.  They told me their interview with him went well.”  Padgett said the Gamecock coaches indicated to him that Nasirildeen is holding to his commitment at this point.  Florida State has been the other school pushing for Nasirildeen in recent weeks and he took an official visit there in December.

USC Tuesday offered 2018 OL Casey Holman (6-4 285) of Snellville, GA.  “I expected it. I worked with Coach Elliot, the previous O-line coach,  at three camps. They were always considered a favorite growing up. They like my size and ability to move for a lineman.”  Holman also has offers from Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Appalachian State,   Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and others.  He will visit Georgia Tech this weekend.  He does not have a favorite and plans to make his decision this summer after visits.

USC offered punter Joe Doyle of Knoxville, TN a preferred walk-on opportunity Monday.  “I’m excited about the USC offer. I know that the SEC is very competitive conference. South Carolina would be an awesome place to play.  I’m talking to a lot of different schools right now.  I should pick up some more offers before National Signing Day.” Doyle also is talking with Tennessee, Marshall, Colorado State, NC State, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Rutgers, Illinois and Iowa.  Doyle said he hopes to set up a visit to USC soon.  He was an Under Armour All American last season averaging 42 yards per punt.  47% of his punts landed inside the 20 and 89% were not returned.  He had a long of 60 yards.

USC offered PK Jack Driggers of Tallahassee a preferred walk-on spot Monday.  “I’m still waiting on some things but I’m hoping to have a home by signing day. South Carolina is definitely in the conversation for me, though. I’ve been up to South Carolina twice and loved it both times”  Driggers has scholarship offers from Army and North Texas while Oklahoma and Duke also have offered him a walk-on opportunity.  Last season Driggers had 35 touchbacks on 42 kickoffs.  He was 9-16 on field goals and averaged 38 yards per punt with no return yards the entire season.

2018 DL Torrion Stevenson of Branchville is hearing from USC and has talked with defensive line coach Lance Thompson.  He was at Virginia Tech Saturday for a junior day.
