South Carolina great Marcus Lattimore, who was going to join the football staff in an ambassador role, can no longer do so, according to a report from David Cloninger of The State newspaper.

According to the report, the NCAA has ruled that Lattimore can’t join South Carolina’s staff. The former running back, who runs The Marcus Lattimore Foundation and runs several football camps, interacts with recruits and prospects and it is considered an unfair advantage.

Lattimore can be a part of the program in the same manner as any other alum and can be invited back to speak with the team, participate in some events and so forth, but he can not be an official member of the South Carolina staff.

NCAA decides Marcus Lattimore is too good of a person to to have a job at USC

Reason 3,987,987 that the NCAA is an organization that lacks even a molecule of common sense came down the pike today. The organization ruled that former USC running back Marcus Lattimore could not accept an off the field position on Will Muschamp’s staff because he would give the Gamecocks an unfair recruiting advantage. The NCAA said because of Lattimore’s status as a former player and his contributions to the community through his camps and organizations, he is not eligible for the job.

Here’s the kicker, according to the story in The State newspaper, Lattimore can still speak to recruits and Gamecock football players, he just can’t get paid for it. Per the NCAA, Lattimore would be able to join Muschamp’s staff as an on the field assistant, but that’s not a role he’s been seeking.

So, to be clear, the NCAA said Marcus Lattimore is such a good role model and person that the NCAA thinks it would be unfair for him to try to get paid helping to guide and lead young athletes following in his footsteps. Brilliant
