Report: One time Duke starting QB Thomas Sirk visiting USC this weekend

TheBigSpur reported Thursday that according to sources graduate student transfer quarterback Thomas Sirk will take an official visit to USC this weekend. Sirk announced earlier this month his intention to transfer for his final season which actually will be his sixth year of eligibility.
The 6-4 Sirk suffered torn achilles tendon injuries in 2013 and 2016 missing both of those seasons and the NCAA granted him a sixth year of eligibility. With Daniel Jones now firmly entrenched as the Blue Devils’ starter, Sirk decided to search for a new home for his final season.
When healthy, Sirk proved to be one of the best quarterbacks in recent Duke history. Among the program records he holds…most consecutive passes thrown without an interception, most offensive plays in a season and most rushing yards and touchdowns in a bowl game.
In 2015 Sirk started 12 games passing for 2625 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for over 800 yards and 8 touchdowns. He led the Blue Devils to their first bowl win in over 50 years.
He also departs Duke with two degrees.
USC is in the market for a veteran quarterback after the departure of Brandon McIlwain. Starter Jake Bentley, who has only played seven games, has no one with any experience behind him.
USC quarterback coach and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper coached Sirk when he was at Duke, and Roper’s brother is the offensive coordinator there now, so there’s an obvious connection there and familiarity with the offense.
Another potential connection is East Carolina where former Duke offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery is the head coach. And Southern Miss is believed to have strong interest in Sirk as well.
