Running back holding to USC commitment but still thinking

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp, offensive line coach Shawn Elliott and running backs coach Bobby Bentley made an in-home visit Thursday night with committed running back C.J. Freeman of Greensboro, N.C.
The goal of the coaches was to introduce themselves to Freeman and to solidify his commitment. They went one for two.
While still committed, Freeman is also giving Wisconsin, Louisville and Georgia Southern equal consideration and will make a final statement on his plans Tuesday night at 7:30.
“It went really good,” Freeman said. “I’m glad I finally got to at least meet with the coaching staff. I haven’t really been talking with them that much, so at least I got to meet with them.”
Freeman said he was impressed how Muschamp and his assistants are determined to turn the program around.
“I can definitely see the determination and sincerity in Muschamp,” he said. “He seems pretty serious about what he’s going to do. They made it clear that I’m a priority. I’m the only running back committed and Coach Bentley let me know straight up, he was like, ‘We want you.’ They feel like I can really be part of the offense. He told me the new offense they are installing is similar to the offense I run right now in my high school so he knows I’ll be a perfect fit for it. They are the favorite because I’m still committed.”
Freeman will take his official visit to USC this weekend with members of his family. Freeman also met with coaches from his other three schools this week. Wisconsin’s head coach Paul Chryst also was in to see him Thursday.
“It was pretty cool having Coach Chryst come by,” Freeman said. “He was telling me how much of a priority back I am. Wisconsin doesn’t have any running backs committed and they only offered three and they were telling me they pick running backs they think will really succeed in their program. They were telling me how the program will benefit me as much as I would benefit them.”
Despite giving the other three schools strong consideration, Freeman said he really hasn’t heard or seen anything yet that would turn him from the Gamecocks.
“Not so far,” he said. “I’ll take my visit this weekend and that’s when I’ll really get to see everything. The offensive coordinator, the new staff with everything, and how I feel about everything and stuff. I’ll really know by Sunday or Monday.”
