Seems that when the rest of CU bought in to Swinney, Swinney was able to convince the athletic dept to invest into recruiting more like Bama and OSU. This included hiring more staff for recruiting.

They also figured out getting top asst coaches was important.
Agree 100%...when I think about Dabo I think about him being one of the first that worked as a CEO of the team as opposed to the coach per se...he has laid out a model that obviously works and he did well in his early years selling himself to recruits and their parents

If we continue to higher unproven coaches for open positions we can expect to fail more often than we succeed.

Correct.  Dawn did this, too.  She was primarily recruiting in the Southeast, but her goal was to beat Geno and UConn, who recruited the best players nationwide.

So she made a course correction and started recruiting nationwide like Geno and that's where she got the #1 recruiting class the other year and now we can kick UConn.

I believe this is how Shane will right the ship here and get the football program back on course and maybe consistently better like Dawn and Dabo have with their respective programs.

The only real reason I brought up Kimrey is that coaching circles right now are in so much flux with all the high profile job switches ... it may very well be tougher to find someone if in fact Shane is even looking. But I agree with you GH.

Satt may have been just trying to help out his friend, Shane, with the understanding he would eventually get back in the NFL.

So maybe there's not that much drama on their end as we might think, but we would fooling ourselves if we thought the losses have not created tension between them as would normally happen on any coaching staff.

There's not much to talk about when we win consistently and maybe too much to talk about when we consistently lose.

We're kinda in that middle ground where there's a lot to talk about.  There should be some pretty good discussions on here the rest of December and in January.

So she made a course correction ....
This is why I always contend that our drop off in recruiting was not all on Spurrier. The athletic dept had a hand in this....we have a noticeably bigger staff now (at least pre-covid) than we did in '15.

Swinney looked at Bama & OSU and saw that they were jacking up the arms race with bigger/better facilities, more recruiting staff, tactics...etc. It paid off.

But the CU athletic dept had to buy into this. It cost $$.

If I remember correctly from earlier in the year, Shane filled out the defensive staff first and then the offensive one later.  You don't know if he was having trouble finding an OC and went ahead and picked a couple of ACs in the hopes they would work out with the eventual OC.  Realistically, things were more goofy than normal due to Covid.

Morrison and his core staff group turned around two previous programs before coming here in 1983.

Shane and his staff have not worked together before this season.

One could argue that he might be able to bridge that gap with hiring additional staff from OU and/or WKU.

It appears to me that our university’s athletic department is focused on winning at Women’s Basketball. If you want to find some similarities with Clemson you have compare their commitment to winning championships at football. I don’t know if we are as committed as they are, it certainly does not appear to me that we are.

JMHO: I don't think reinforcing success where you have success doesn't mean you aren't committed to succeeding in other areas.

Agreed, I’m not saying Dawn Staley doesn’t deserve her salary. I’m saying our football program provides the bulk of our athletics income. Why not a strategic plan and timeline for success including defining what success is for the University of South Carolina.
