By: Brian Rauf
Two powerhouses collide in the Class 4A-Division 1 state championship Saturday when the Gaffney Indians take on the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes in Williams-Brice Stadium at 3:00. Gaffney is looking to win their first championship since 2006, while Dutch Fork is looking to win their first-ever title.
The Indians, led by head coach Dan Jones, ended up with an 8-3 regular season record, but defeated Ashley Ridge, Stratford, and Byrnes by margins of 18, 16, and 2 points, respectively to make it to the state championship game.
The Silver Foxes, who are led by head coach Tom Knotts, also finished the regular season with an 8-3 record but beat Hillcrest, Boiling Springs, and White Knoll in the postseason by 28, 35, and 17 points, respectively.
Phil caught up with both coaches to talk about their state championship battle and a look back at each of their seasons.
