Scott Spurrier leaving South Carolina

Jan. 24, 2017

According to John Whittle of TheBigSpur, Scott Spurrier is leaving his post as an offensive analyst for the South Carolina football team.

Whittle reported on Monday afternoon that Spurrier is headed to South Florida.

The son of former South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, Scott first joined the Gamecocks football program as a walk-on wide receiver in 2006. Prior to Will Muschamp’s arrival as head coach, he spent the previous two seasons as a quality control coach for his father.

After graduating in 2009, Spurrier worked as a graduate assistant coach for South Carolina, before receiving his promotion to the quality control staff in 2014.

In 2016, he was often seen working with the Gamecocks wide receiver group, alongside co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon.

Spurrier is one of several coaches to leave the South Carolina coaching staff this offseason.

In December, offensive line coach Shawn Elliott took over the program at Georgia State. In the process, he took graduate assistant strength coach Cedric Williams, to serve as the team’s offensive line coach. Later in the month, assistant strength coach David Feeley left for the head position at Temple.
