USC quarterbacks Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson have taken turns directing the Gamecocks to wins over Clemson the last two seasons. In 2011 Shaw accounted for 317 yards rushing and passing and 4 touchdowns in a 34-13 victory in Columbia. Last year, Thompson subbed for an injured Shaw and passed for 310 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing for 38 yards.
In Saturday’s rout of Coastal Carolina in which the Gamecocks ran up 70 points and 639 yards, the pair each completed 8 of 11 passes for a combined 255 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the process, Shaw earned his 25th victory as USC’s starting quarterback surpassing the school record held by Todd Ellis.
